Pure-Green Colorado Wins Grant For Geothermal And Hydrogen Study With Steamboat Ski Resort
Pure-Green Colorado (Pure-Green) received a $298,000 award through Colorado’s Geothermal Energy Grant Program to advance the use of geothermal technology. Funding will support the evaluation of integrated geothermal power generation and storage deep in the earth paired with green hydrogen production around the Steamboat Ski Resort.
Designed for up to 18 hours of daily dispatchable, or peak generation capacity and heat supply, the Steamboat project is intended to provide renewable geothermal energy and long-duration storage directly to the Yampa Valley grid. Plans include green hydrogen production to replace natural gas and to power fleet vehicles, along with co-generation of heat to support the redeveloped Gondola Transit Center.
Pure-Green CEO Brian Dunn said, “We are grateful for this award and the support we’ve gained from partner organizations in the Steamboat community. The grant enables us to study the viability of next generation geothermal in partnership with the Steamboat Ski Resort. Our technologies are field-tested and commercial ready. We’re optimistic about deploying our clean energy ecosystem at the resort.”
Pure-Green’s technology partners are Sage Geosystems of Houston, Texas and New Day Hydrogen of Englewood, Colo.
- Pure-Green Colorado offers an integrated clean energy ecosystem using proven technologies in a new configuration. The modular ecosystem combines next generation geothermal energy and storage deep in the earth, scalable hydrogen green fuels and miniaturized Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. Pure Green Colorado is led by Brian Dunn, CEO of Pure-Green Energy Hub and William Carpenter, CEO of H2 Synergy.
- Sage Geosystems was founded in 2020 and is developing Geopressured Geothermal System (GGS) technologies deep in the earth. Sage Geosystems is the first company to demonstrate the ability to deliver cost-effective and commercially viable next generation geothermal (i.e., hot dry rock) with the company’s proprietary GGS design. The Sage Geosystems team has over 150 combined years in the oil and gas industry, with experience delivering major projects including Deepwater, Arctic, and Unconventional shales.
- New Day Hydrogen seeds local hydrogen markets in North America with its proprietary HubStarter hydrogen production, storage, and supply system. These systems produce hydrogen fuel on site with just water and electricity and offer centralized fleets and other users a rapid, affordable alternative to batteries in their transition to zero emissions.
