Para-Alpine Skiing On The Riesneralm: Austrian National Championships With International Participation

The Styrian region of Schladming-Dachstein will become a hotspot for para-skiing next week. From March 28th to 30th, the Austrian National Championships will take place on the Riesneralm.

  • From March 28th to 30th in the disciplines of Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom
  • Athletes from abroad are also welcome to participate
  • Excellent slope conditions and a fantastic supporting program await athletes, coaches, and spectators on the Riesneralm

Due to the weather-related cancellation of certain events at the World Championships in Maribor in early February, these events were also opened to international athletes. Around 120 participants from many nations will compete in the disciplines of Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom. In addition to the exciting competitions, a varied supporting program awaits spectators.

"We are very proud to host this top-class event and look forward to the many fantastic alpine para-skiers and their coaches," says Erwin Petz, Managing Director of Riesneralm Bergbahnen, which is responsible for organizing the Austrian Championships together with the Donnersbachwald Ski Club. "The three days promise exciting races in a unique atmosphere." Top-class sporting events in Schladming-Dachstein Mathias Schattleitner, Managing Director of the Schladming-Dachstein Tourist Board, explains: "It's fantastic that the Austrian Championships are also open to international para-skiers this year. The three-day event joins a long list of top-class sporting events in our region. The athletes can expect the best snow and slope conditions all the way down to the valley, providing perfect conditions for exciting competitions."

The starting field includes all the renowned athletes competing at the highest level in the three different disciplines. The Super-G kicks off on Friday (March 28), followed by the giant slalom on Saturday (March 29). After the award ceremonies for both events (starting at 4 p.m.), things really get going on Saturday evening with the big after-race party.

The "Alpenpiraten" (Alpine Pirates) will provide a lively atmosphere at the Platz'l Riesneralm. On Sunday (March 30), the "international" Austrian National Championships will reach their grand finale with the slalom. www.schladming-dachstein.at |
