Palisades Tahoe Receives Double Last Year's Snowfall To Date
Dreaming of a white Christmas? The dream has been made a reality in California as a huge snowstorm has arrived at two of the state’s most popular ski regions, Palisades Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes.
The ongoing snowstorm has seen Palisades Tahoe receive more than four feet of snow in a matter of days, making the overall total of snowfall for the season 113 inches – double the amount than this time last year (56 inches).
Mammoth Mountain picked up another 27 inches of new snow to bring the current storm total to a solid 40-48 inches. This brings the season snow total 92 inches at Main Lodge and 127 inches at the Summit. With another major storm system setting up for next week, this could just be the warm up.
The storm follows Palisades Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain, in Mammoth Lakes, having some of their earliest opening dates in history; both welcomed skiers and riders on 29 October, weeks earlier than their anticipated opening dates of 24 November and 12 November respectively. Both operating on a limited basis, the heavy snow means they can open up the remaining slopes, so skiers and riders can enjoy a magical white Christmas exploring all that the resorts have to offer.
Palisades Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain are part of the Ikon Pass, a season pass which gives skiers and snowboarders access to 47 destinations worldwide including three European resorts; Dolomiti Superski in Italy, Kitzbühel in Austria and Zermatt, Switzerland.
