Outdoor Research ready With FW 21 Ski Collection

Outdoor Research has a ton more new fall/winter gear ready to hit the shelves. The hero products include:

Your Backcountry Kit

Skytour AscentShell Jacket and Bibs – Building apparel for backcountry skiing is a tricky business – weather protection is critical but it can’t come at the cost of moisture buildup inside. The Skytour jacket and bibs employ a lighter-weight version of Outdoor Research AscentShell fabric, 20 percent lighter than the fabric used in its predecessor, the Skyward collection, creating a supple, stretchy package that moves with you. Since 2016, AscentShell has led the next generation in waterproof fabrics with an electrospun membrane technology that is weather protective while offering unparalleled breathability in a waterproof shell – a fabric that allows you to be protected and highly active in cold places without overheating and getting wet. Skytour pairs that with a fresh silhouette that is contemporary while accommodating different layering scenarios. The jacket has a roomy, longer cut. The bibs also feature a roomy cut with a softshell upper, a clip-in beacon pocket in the upper bib pocket, and roomy legs with thigh cargo pockets that don’t impede movement. Men’s and women’s fits. $349 jacket, $349 bibs.

Helium Insulated Hoodie – Offering windproof warmth in a minimalist and eco-conscious package, the Helium Insulated Hoodie is the lightest, most packable insulated jacket in the Outdoor Research collection. Inside, 60g VerticalX ECOSR insulation is made from REPREVE® recycled polyester and 37% bio-based Sorona®. Not only is this a more sustainable choice, thanks to a pairing of partially recycled and naturally derived contents, this combination of materials results in a higher-loft insulation, offering 20 percent more loft over regular VerticalX insulation. And because lightweight can’t come at the expense of real-world use, OR uses Pertex® Quantum fabric with Diamond Fuse technology, which is twice as durable as the standard fabrics used in this kind of light insulated jacket yet still lightweight. Men’s and women’s fits. $199.

Vigor Cap – Designed with backcountry skiing in mind, but applicable to any cold-weather activity where you want added sun protection in bright-light conditions, the Vigor Cap is half beanie, half ball cap, offering the warmth of a fleece hat paired with the sun protection of a visor. The crown employs fast-wicking and warm Outdoor Research Vigor Grid Fleece. $35.

For the Snowiest Days

Mt. Baker Storm Jacket and Bibs Known for creating gear that will stand the test of time, Outdoor Research has created iconic products over four decades that have come to define entire categories. One is the Mt. Baker Mitt, a bombproof, functional mitt created for wet, snowy conditions like you’d find at Mt. Baker. Decades after being introduced, the Mt. Baker Mitt still lives on in the OR product collection, in a form that has seen a number of updates over the years. As Outdoor Research marks its 40th anniversary, it is building on the heritage of offering ultra-durable, storm-proof gear with the Mt. Baker Jacket and Bibs. Made for in-bounds and sidecountry skiing in wet and/or snowy weather, the Mt. Baker apparel was developed with extensive athlete feedback into what works in the real world. The jacket and bibs are constructed using two different weights of GORE-TEX fabrics, with a super-durable fabric on the hood, shoulders and forearms of the jacket, and upper leg, knee and seat of the bibs. A  generous fit throughout facilitates layering, and a longer cut in the jacket adds extra protection. Men’s and women’s fits. $449 jacket, $449 bibs.

Radiant X Gloves and Mitts A new technology that creates better warmth without increasing insulation volume or weight allows the new Outdoor Research Radiant X Gloves and Mitts to offer higher performance in a more dexterous package. XReflex™ technology works by utilizing ultra-thin surface coatings to reflect radiant body heat, improving thermal retention without reducing breathability. A perfect application for this technology is gloves, where dexterity is crucial, but it can’t come at the expense of warmth. Outdoor Research combines this new  technology in a fully featured alpine glove and mitt. The design includes a bluesign approved stretch woven waterproof outer shell fabric, touchscreen compatibility, an innovative two-strap cinch system that offers a closer fit, and full wraparound leather on the fingertips to minimize seams and increase dexterity and durability. $115.

For Resort Days

Snowcrew Jacket and Pant Built for the demands of pounding out lap after lap at the ski area, the Snowcrew Jacket and Pant are the warmest ski kit in the Outdoor Research collection. They combine a resort-specific feature set and recycled materials with a sharp price point to meet the needs of the die-hard ski bum. The men’s jacket uses a combination of 80- and 60-gram Vertical X Eco insulation. The women’s jacket uses 100-gram throughout. The pants use 45 gram insulation in the seat and thighs. Vertical X Eco® is a proprietary insulation from Outdoor Research that offers a superior warmth-to-weight ratio, more effective breathability in active situations, and better loft retention over time. It’s made from 85 percent recycled content. On the outer, OR’s stretchy waterproof Ventia® fabric is made from 56 percent recycled materials.
