Osprey Gives Back This Green Friday

As part of Osprey’s 50th Anniversary celebrations this year the specialist pack brand continues to give back to the areas we love to explore.

For Green Friday (29 November) Osprey has collaborated with long-standing partner EOCA (European Outdoor Conservation Association) and Fix the Fells, a conservation programme dedicated to trail restoration and footpath repair in the Lake District. From 29 November until 2 December Osprey will be offering a 20% discount on selected products from the hiking and backpacking range with 20% of sales being donated to Fix the Fells.

With over 15 million visitors to the areas national parks each year, coupled with extreme weather exposure, the dramatic landscape experiences harsh erosion and requires the good will of volunteers and outdoor enthusiasts to keep paths open and accessible. The mission of Fix the Fells is to protect the spectacular Lakeland fells from erosion by repairing and maintaining its 344 upland paths, covering 410 miles (661 km), and in so doing help to keep the Lake District a special place for everyone to enjoy.

As part of this project, Osprey's Green Friday give back promotion supports the restoration of three eroded paths that provide access to some of the most accessible and popular Wainwrights:

  • Glenridding Dodd – an easy Wainwright, which is popular with families and first-timers due to ease of access.
  • Loughrigg – easily accessible from Ambleside, this popular Wainwright has seen more people post Covid, with significant erosion of the steep path. This is quite intimidating, and the project will make it clearer and more accessible for less confident or first-time visitors.
  • Gowbarrow – accessed from Aira Force, the path has become increasingly popular with a combination of being part of Ullswater Way and the new Ullswater steamers jetty, which has generated additional visitors.

The Lake District Foundation team is incredibly grateful for Osprey’s generous support of the Fix the Fells Partnership. “With millions of visitors exploring our fells every year, the impact on our fragile paths and landscapes is significant. Osprey’s commitment helps us repair and maintain these vital routes - all while protecting the environment from erosion and degradation. Together, we are making a real difference for the fells, the wildlife they sustain and the people who love them." The Lake District Foundation Team.

Osprey’s collaboration with EOCA and Fix The Fells goes beyond the brand’s annual support as a Sustaining Member with a fundraising target of £20,000.

Osprey has partnered with EOCA for over 10 years supporting numerous projects ranging from habitat restoration for Brown bears in Italy to rewilding of meadows in Yorkshire (UK) .
