Ortovox Presents ‘Alps To – Go?!,’ A Documentary About The Threat To The Alps
ORTOVOX presents “Alps – To Go?!,” a documentary written by Tom Dauer. The wilderness of the Alps is a place people long for now more than ever, and is thus attracting more and more people — the wilderness we all dream of is in acute danger. The film introduces four protagonists with their various attitudes toward the Alps, and raises the question: “To what extent do we all have to practice restraint, in order to protect the Alps?”
“It’s ultimately about our own personal behavior in the mountains; we need to stop shifting the responsibility elsewhere. We do believe that change is possible, but that it can only come from within us. That’s why we’ve created ‘Alps – to Go?!’: to address complex issues and use a quiet, controversial tone to make people think,” explains Christian Schneidermeier, CEO of ORTOVOX.
The Alps are a place of longing. Wild, untouched, sublime — but only in our heads. Humans have been shaping and changing the Alps since time immemorial. What we see is what we have created over centuries. Nevertheless, we still tend to believe that the Alps are a counterworld. Because we wish to see them that way, we never stop reinventing their myths. Today we are at a point where we are doing more harm than good. We are in the process of destroying what we love and need. And we know that. The Alps are part of us and we are part of them. We have to take responsibility if we wish to save them. We all have to ask ourselves: “What can I do?” More and more people are looking to the Alps as a place where they can fulfill their heart’s desire.
Without a doubt, this exponential growth leads to all kinds of conflicts. When more and more people want something from the Alps, it can only work if everyone exploits them less. Four protagonists each present their own different perspectives and take viewers on a journey of humility, restraint and inner gain.
