North Face Launches Feature Film “Hielo”
Today, The North Face launched HIELO, a feature film documenting Fernanda Maciel’s incredible FKT crossing South America's Patagonia. The film is now live on YouTube
Hielo Continental is one of the largest ice fields in the world and the heart of the Patagonian Andes with the 7 day hiking route, starting in El Chaltén, taking people deep into the mountains. 10 years ago, The North Face Ultrarunner Fernanda Maciel first conceived of her dream to run this epic route in a single push but the savage weather resisted her brave attempt.
HIELO follows Fernanda as she returns with teammate Kaytlyn Gerbin to face this wild and remote glacier while running around the iconic mountains of the Torre and Fitzroy Massifs, putting their strength, endurance, and technical abilities to their ultimate test.
A lover of sport and nature, Fernanda Maciel is one of the most renowned ultramarathon athletes in the world today.

Running has been present in Fernanda Maciel's life from the age of eight. At 23, she began to participate in international 600km 'non-stop' adventure racing. Over the years, she progressed in each facet of adventure racing (kayak, MTB, trail running), multi-sports (snowboarding, MTB, downhill, speed, trail running), triathlon and marathons over mountains to become a great endurance athlete.
Today, Fernanda's achievements include being the first woman to run the Camino de Santiago Compostela (860km in 10 days) and she was second on the Ultra Trail Mount Fuji (169km). In 2016, she became the first woman to run up and down the highest mountain in the Americas, Aconcagua (in Mendoza Province, Argentina), which stands at 6,962m. "When I'm running on top of mountains or paddling in the ocean, I feel so small and yet I feel the most intense feelings of freedom and peace," she says.
