New Sollereckbahn Opens
In April 2020, the starting signal for the new construction of the Söllereckbahn, which was brought forward by two months, was given, which was then completed on time in December 2020 after a great effort by all those involved. Due to the lockdown, regular guest operations did not start until May 2021. Since then, the new comfortable 10-person cabins have brought guests to the starting points of the high-altitude hiking trails, the climbing forest and the Söllis ball race with an impressive all-round view. Today the new Söllereckbahn was opened in the presence of the Bavarian deputy. Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger, the regional councilor of the Oberallgäu district Indra Baier-Müller and mayor of Oberstdorf Klaus King officially blessed by Pastor Maurus B. Mayer and Pastor Roland Sievers. The planned,
Investment sets an example in times of crisis
“It takes courage and foresight to invest in the crisis. The mountain railways have proven this unprecedented with the new construction of the Söllereck, which has been brought forward and set a clear example: They believe in tourism even in times of global challenges. This is a strong signal for Bavaria, as approx. 600,000 people derive their income entirely from tourism and, viewed in Germany as a whole, every 15th job is in tourism, ”says the Bavarian Deputy. Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger convinced of the investment made. Although the Söllereckbahn was completed on time for the winter season, it could not go into operation due to the Corona requirements of the Bavarian state government. At the end of January 2021, it was then allowed to show what it is made of for the first time in a test operation: The skiers of the German and Allgäu Ski Association completed a successful training period on the Söllereck under strict hygiene requirements. The Söllereckbahn has been back in operation for guests for a good two months. “The start during the summer months is particularly important for the ailing tourism in the Allgäu. The Söllereck is a central recreational mountain in the Allgäu and with the new Söllereckbahn the region will once again be more attractive, ”says Provincial Councilor Indra Baier-Müller.
More comfort on a family outing
Specifically, modern 10-passenger gondola lifts from the company LEITNER ropeways bring visitors on a mountain adventure at around 1,400 m. Without having to cross the B19, the experience starts right at the parking lot where the new valley station is located. A clear advantage especially for families with small children. In addition to the technological innovations, the Söllereckbahn including new train stations is also a real eye-catcher from an architectural point of view. The green roofs nestle harmoniously into the landscape and large glass fronts provide a view of the mountain panorama. “The fact that the Söllereckbahn is running today is thanks to the entire team involved, which, despite the adversity, implemented such a complex project with pinpoint accuracy. The entire construction phase went very well and quickly, that speaks for the special performance of each individual, ”said Henrik Volpert, CEO of Oberstdorfer Bergbahn AG, and Mayor Klaus King in unison. Finally, Volpert adds: “The previous customer feedback shows that our drive and motivation have paid off. The visitors enjoy the gain in comfort as well as the entertaining ride with a great view of nature. We are sure that the Söllereckbahn will not only delight guests in summer, but will also convince skiers in winter with significant added value. ”More at www.ok-bergbahnen.com The visitors enjoy the gain in comfort as well as the entertaining ride with a great view of nature.
