New Name, New Route: “dachsteinlauf” Revives The Tradition Of Cross-Country Skiing
For many years, the “Tour de Ramsau” was considered a unique major event in Austria for Nordic athletes from all over the world. There will now be a realignment in 2024; the organizers presented a concept with some changes today. The top sporting event is getting a new name and will in future be called the “Dachsteinlauf”. A new route, a diverse supporting program and various competitions for different target groups are among the innovations in the process. The new Dachstein Run will take place from January 12th to 14th, 2024, and more than 500 participants are expected for the four races and entertaining side events. “First and foremost, as part of the realignment, we want to take up the basic idea of cross-country skiing,” emphasized Franz Eisl, deputy chairman of the Schladming-Dachstein Tourism Association, who took over the organization of the event as the new organizer in cooperation with the WSV Ramsau . “This means that as many sports enthusiasts as possible should be encouraged to take part. Thanks to the wide- ranging supporting program with children's races and culinary pleasure runs as well as the various competitions, there is something for many cross-country skiers - whether professional, amateur athlete or nature lover. Everyone who wants to take part will find the right route.” The new route will also be the venue for the 2024 European Championships
The participants can expect a lot of sporting action and also a new route with 42 kilometers on the perfectly prepared trails across the entire Ramsau plateau. The motto is: “The full enjoyment in one run”. For those new to competition and for teams, there is also a shorter round of 10 kilometers in length. The new “pleasure run” combines cross-country skiing with regional cuisine. Various dishes from local businesses can be tasted along a 5-kilometer route. Hans-Peter Steiner from WSV Ramsau emphasizes: “As the person responsible for sports, I am very pleased that with the 'Dachsteinlauf' we are once again using a 42-kilometer lap to mark the 25th anniversary of the cross-country skiing in Ramsau Both competitions, skating on Saturday and classic on Sunday, can be held. The Euroloppet European Championships 2024, which will be run on our new route, will also be a special event.”
“Ramsau is inseparably linked to the popular sport of cross-country skiing”
Ernst Fischbacher, mayor of the municipality of Ramsau, is looking forward to the newly organized event: “Ramsau is inseparably linked to the popular and popular sport of cross-country skiing, and there is a good reason for that. The offer over three levels in the middle of a climatic health resort with matching cross-country ski trail infrastructure has been inspiring people who seek and find balance on the cross-country ski trails for many decades. It is great for our community that with the Dachstein Run, a race for all classes, for young and old, is once again being held here at marathon distance and that the tradition as a Nordic sports venue is being carried on.”
