New Leitner Galsterbergbahn Cable Car Officially Opens

After a construction period of almost seven months, the new 10-seater gondola lift on the Galsterberg was officially opened. Galsterberg Managing Director Mag. Peter Weichbold welcomed almost 200 invited guests from politics, business and tourism to the celebration.

The new 10-seater gondola lift from ropeway manufacturer LEITNER ropeways means great added value for the Galsterberg and the entire Schladming-Dachstein region. With the new cable car, guests can get from the valley to the mountain station in just six and a half minutes in the most comfortable way.

As part of the ceremony, the 10-seater gondola project was presented by Galsterberg Managing Director Mag. Peter Weichbold, together with project manager Reinfried Prugger, architect DI Gerhard Kreiner and operations manager Josef Zörweg.

Dir. Georg Bliem, Managing Director of Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen GmbH, which also owns the Galsterberg, was also pleased: "The Galsterberg has developed very well in recent years and the construction of the new main cable car was the logical next step. This new railway convinces with the highest level of comfort and above all the stations adapt perfectly to the landscape. I am very pleased that today we are ushering in a new era at Galsterberg and I would like to say thank you to the community of Michaelerberg-Pruggern and the population from the entire Gröbminger Land for the enormous support".

The speech was made by State Councilor Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, who was impressed: "With the new, modern 10-seater gondola lift on the Galsterberg, the Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen have once again invested in the wide range of offers for their guests and thus ensure more comfort as well as customer satisfaction. I am convinced that not only the small but fine Galsterberg ski area, but also Styria as a destination for holidays and leisure activities will benefit from this. Thank you to everyone involved who, with this investment, will make Austria’s green heart beat even faster!”

After the ceremony, the ecumenical blessing of the new cable car took place. Afterwards, the guests were able to convince themselves of the new 10-seater gondola lift on the ascent to the cozy conclusion in the Bottinghaus mountain restaurant. The opening ceremony was musically framed by the music band Pruggern.

Maximum comfort for passengers

Generous glass fronts enable a 360° all-round panoramic view. The transport capacity of the new cable car is up to 1,200 people/hour. In addition to maximum comfort and a significantly higher transport capacity, value was placed above all on a station design with a regional focus. The mountain and valley station score with a building architecture in "shingle design" and adapt perfectly to the landscape.
