New Hossbahn: Upper Austria's Largest Cable Car Project Takes Off
The official opening of the new Hössbahn in Hinterstoder took place today in the presence of high-ranking celebrities. No wonder, since this is Upper Austria's largest cable car project. Within half a year, the valley station in Hinterstoder was built in front of the town center, right next to the parking area. In an ambitious schedule, a comfortable, modern 10-seater gondola was built on the Höss with in practice 50% more capacity. Present at the opening were: Bishop Dr. Manfred Scheuer, Provincial Governor Mag. Thomas Stelzer, Economics and Tourism Provincial Councilor Markus Achleitner, Prof. Peter Schröcks Nadel, Dr. Markus Schröcks Nadel, Hinterstoder Mayor Klaus Aizetmüller, Upper Austria Tourism Manager Andreas Winkelhofer and many more.
Promising project for Upper Austria's tourism industry
Governor Thomas Stelzer sees the cable car project in Hinterstoder as an important sign for the local tourism industry and jobs in the region. "The new Hössbahn is a very special offer for all Upper Austrians - but also for all other guests - who visit this unique region. In addition, this infrastructure project also means an important investment in the future of the region, in the local tourism industry and in jobs,” emphasizes Stelzer. Despite the difficult general conditions, this modern cable car system was realized within half a year.
New Hössbahn brings even more comfort and speed
"Hinterstoder is one of the most popular, year-round mountain tourism destinations in Upper Austria and has now received an additional attraction with the new Hössbahn: It was not only built at record speed, but also offers guests even more comfort and speed. This investment makes Upper Austria as a tourist destination even more attractive for guests from Austria and abroad," emphasized Markus Achleitner, Regional Minister for Economic Affairs and Tourism, at the opening ceremony. The operators invested a total of 22 million euros in this, the largest ropeway project in Upper Austria, with the support of the province of Upper Austria. Prof. Peter Schröcksnadel, as the owner's representative, also referred in his words to the great importance of the new lift: "The modernization brings many advantages for guests. On the one hand, there is no more waiting, and on the other, you can get to the mountain faster and more comfortably. This makes the ski day even more enjoyable." For Dr. Markus Schröcksnadel, the new Hössbahn is more than just the most important feeder lift to the ski area: "The lift is contemporary, energy-efficient and modern. With it, we are setting our mark for modern tourism in the Stoder Valley." This investment will also make the valley runs more attractive and more used. This, in turn, will lead to higher guest frequency in the stores and gastronomy in the village center.
New dimension for skiing in Hinterstoder
“The further development of the local mountain experience into a varied offer in all 4 seasons is one of the focal points in the current development process for the 'State Tourism Strategy 2028'. In order to inspire guests from near and far all year round, a modern, high-quality infrastructure with the appropriate level of comfort is a decisive factor. The new Hössbahn is a major impetus for the high-quality further development of the Pyhrn-Priel holiday region and will ensure added value all year round,” says Mag. Andreas Winkelhofer, Managing Director of Upper Austria Tourism. For the Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG, the implementation of this prestigious project was a major challenge. "If you want to implement projects like this on such a short, ambitious schedule, reliable partners are required for planning and construction - but also for faster and more reliable responsible persons on the part of the authorities. We would like to thank everyone here, it was only possible to complete the cable car and put it into operation by Christmas through a unique cooperation," says CEO Helmut Holzinger.
His colleague on the board, Rainer Rohregger, sees the railway as a milestone for tourism: "We can offer our winter sports guests more time on the slopes thanks to the increased funding capacity. Upper Austria's largest cable car project - the new Hössbahn in Hinterstoder
The new Hössbahn is a gondola lift that can transport 3,200 guests per hour in 10-seater gondolas. In practice, the new transport capacity corresponds to a 50% increase in capacity and will thus lead to a significant reduction in waiting times for guests. The new location of the valley station, directly after entering the town at the large parking lot, means a much shorter and more comfortable route for all visitors. Another new feature is that the ski holders are on the inside, which means a significant time advantage when boarding. With a route length of 2,606 meters, a difference in altitude of 811 meters is overcome in a time of 6.5 minutes. The new cable car is an important step
