New 10 Seater Gondola For Berwang

From the 2025/2026 winter season, skiers and snowboarders in the Berwang ski arena will have access to a modern 10-person gondola lift up to the Oberes Kar.

Bergbahnen Berwang builds Section II of the Obere Karbahn. After the continuation of the project, which started in 2019, was repeatedly delayed due to COVID restrictions and the advancement of the Thanellerbahn in 2020, the long-awaited starting signal has now been given for the construction of the 2nd section of the Obere Karbahn, which will replace the old Thanellerkar drag lift. Completion and commissioning is planned for December 2025. The construction will not only provide more comfort for guests, it will also extend existing slopes, as the new mountain station will be located 140 meters higher than the end of the previous drag lift. The current mountain station of the Obere Karbahn Section I will then function as the middle station.

This summer, work will begin on the first part of the avalanche protection in the Scharte area, as well as the support foundations and excavation work at the mountain station. The rest of the avalanche protection, the foundations of the mountain station, the construction of the slopes including the snowmaking system and the assembly of the cable car will take place in summer 2025.

The Skiarena Berwang is exactly the right choice if you’re looking for a truly enjoyable, family-friendly ski region away from all the hustle and bustle. A total of 36 km of slopes are connected by thirteen modern cable cars and lifts (one 10-seat family lift, one combined 6-seat/8-seat lift, three chairlifts, and seven T-bar lifts). 19 km of the downhills are easy (marked blue) and therefore particularly suited for families with children, ski beginners and ski connoisseurs. Sufficient snow is guaranteed thanks to the altitude exceeding 1,300 m and the snowmaking machines covering approx. 80 percent of all slopes. The doors of rustic alps and family-friendly mountain inns are always open for a nice rest stop.

While the Berwang-Bichlbach winter sport region might not be among the biggest ski regions, it offers many a surprise! The night slope in Berwang is a great experience in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena – and the night toboggan run is a genuine highlight for all ages. Snowboards, cross-country skiers, winter hikers and ice sport fans enjoy the small yet exclusive ski region in the Zugspitz Arena as well as there’s something great for everyone in the heart of the beautiful nature scenery of the Berwanger Tal.
