Naturhotel Forsthofgut is a 5* family-run, family-friendly ski-in/ski-out luxury hotel situated on the Asitz mountain slopes in Leogang, SalzburgerLand, Austria. Surrounded by nature, 200m from the nearest lift, 150m from the ski kindergarten.

Easy access to 408km of pistes and 121 lifts across 3 prime ski regions. Dating back to 1617, the hotel has evolved from a forestry business and guest house into one of Austria’s top hotels. Exquisite dining - sustainable, organic, vegan and Japanese menus; speciality cocktail bar; wine tastings twice weekly; dedicated Lakehouse Spa for adults,  world’s first forest Spa (waldSPA Family & Kids), extensive water features, multiple pools, saunas, treatment rooms; Onsen bath and washhouse, infinity pool, natural chemical-free swimming lake, floating Finnish sauna and natural plunge pool; organic farm with animal feeding visits; in-hotel ski shop; daily childcare from 9am to 9 pm; year-round weekly excursions.

One of only two hotels in Austria to feature in the world’s best places to visit, Forsthofgut was singled out for its natural Alpine aesthetic, calm and tranquillity. Special reference was made to its natural swimming lake, unbeatable mountain setting and direct access to the ski slopes.

For skiers, Forsthofgut’s location is outstanding: a piste runs past the door and the Asitz lift is just 200m away, for fast access to skiing for all abilities. For non-skiers, the location is no less attractive with extensive snowshoe and winter hiking trails, toboggan runs and sleigh rides.

The Schmuck family invested more than £10million in their hotel during lockdown, creating a floating Finnish Sauna, plunge pool and infinity pool incorporated in the lake, and a new waldSPA Seehaus (adults only) with 3 treatment rooms, a traditional Onsen pool (42°C) and washroom, a Japanese restaurant and 3 stunning loft suites. The investment also brought improvements to the original waldSPA Family & Kids with a new textile sauna area, large relaxation room, 21m indoor pool, extensive water play features and a range of pools and water slides for all ages.

The Boutique Hotel Awards, in its 11th year, is the first and only international awards organisation dedicated to the recognition of excellence among boutique hotels. Winners were selected from 250 nominees - compiled by the Awards Nomination Committee comprising 35 travel experts. In spite of the Covid restrictions, every property was personally vetted by an experienced hotel judge specialising in each category.
