Mt. Hood Meadows Collects More Than Two Tons Of Food And Over $33,000 At Fish Food Bank Can Drive Event
More than 1,000 skiers and snowboarders turned out today (Tuesday, December 13, 2022) at Mt. Hood Meadows for the first annual “Provide to Ride” food collection event for FISH - the Hood River Food Bank. Meadows offered a free lift ticket today (Tuesday) for the donation of 24 cans of food or two hams. They also offered a special lift ticket for those that just wanted to donate with the proceeds going to FISH.
FISH Director of Operations gladly accepts this contribution - part of the TWO TONS of canned food and hams collected at Tuesday's event
FISH is a local non-profit serving the greater Columbia Gorge Region. Director of Operations Marianne Brevard says FISH serves on average 500 families a month facing food insecurity, saying, “With the cost of food increasing many families can come to the bank to receive a 3 - 5 day supply of food to help get them through difficult financial times.” In addition to food donations FISH receives monetary donations through their website fish-food-bank.com.
Meadows General Manager Greg Pack says the team is stoked to support the FISH Food Bank and that guests showed up - filling the main and HRM lots. “Our team is extremely proud to be a part of this. To see the smiles on their faces to put this event on and the guests who showed up today being thankful to be here and knowing they are helping out the food bank is an incredible feeling for all of us.”
In total the food drive collected MORE THAN TWO TONS of food from those who donated in exchange for a lift ticket - and raised $33,145 for FISH to purchase food for families in need. By all accounts the first annual event was a huge success just in time for the holidays.
