Montgenevre New Rocher De L'Aigle Lift
The cable car was built by Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH and, thanks to its speed of 7 m/s, will reduce travel time by a third compared to the old chairlift.
The 10-seat cabins from CWA Constructions SA will provide users with the best comfort.
The location of this gondola is of high strategic importance as it favors skiing at higher altitudes and significantly improves the connection to the Italian Voie Lactée area, operated by the partners of Sestrieres SpA.
The decision to use a gondola was also influenced by the lower environmental impact compared to a chairlift. In hilly topography such as that traversed by this line, the gondola requires fewer supports than a chairlift. There will be 11 supports instead of 24 like the old system. This also allowed for a site that protected the area's wetlands.
As for the old chairlift, it was 95% recycled in the spirit of sustainable development. The supports and seats were taken to other ski resorts in the French Alps; the engine was returned under a lease agreement. The rope, steering positions and electrical equipment were reused at Montgenèvre station. The pulleys, brakes and gearbox were stored for later reuse. The concrete foundations of the old supports were removed.
