Mont Valaisan: A New Ski Area To Open In La Rosiere

Since 1984, the Espace San Bernardo links La Rosière in France with La Thuile in Italy. This is unique in the Northen Alps. In December 2018, La Rosière – Espace San Bernardo is opening the new Mont Valaisan sector.
Located on the French side of the ski area, to the right of the Redoute Ruinée Fort, this investment of 15 million euros will create 5 new red pistes served by two detachable chairlifts.: The Moulins and the Mont Valaisan. The expansion will offer a more technical ski area with more freeride possibilities. It will also create a new highest point at 2,800m, with beautiful views of Mont Blanc!
Two new lifts have been built:
• The Moulins is a 6-seater, detachable chairlift, that can transport up to 2,800 skiers per hour, from 1,939m to 2,461m.  The duration of the journey is of 4 min and 59 seconds.
• The Mont Valaisan is also a 6-seater. It can transport up to 2,400 people per hour, from 2,460m to 2803m in 2 minutes and 55 seconds.
La Rosière decided to have the total length of its ski runs on the Franco-Italian ski area verified by MONTENIUS Consult, an independent and international expert. The chosen method was the straight-line distance, which is measured down the centre of the marked slope.
The results of the study show that La Rosière - Espace San Bernardo ski area will count 152km of runs (excluding cross-country ski trails, sledging areas, and permanent ski touring trails) from Winter 2018-2019 with the opening of Mont Valaisan.
For this expert, La Rosière - Espace San Bernardo is the 13th biggest ski area in France and the 34th in the world.
