Mel Toney Selected To Lead Mountain Operations At Mt. Hood Meadows

Mt. Hood Meadows has promoted Melissa (Mel) Toney to the position of V.P. of Mountain Operations. Mel is a twenty-two year team member joining Meadows in 1997. Her responsibilities as Director of Mountain Operations include direct oversight of Ski Patrol, Lift Maintenance, Lift Operations, Risk Management, Workplace Safety, Vehicle Maintenance and Transportation, Slope and Park Grooming. .

Meadows General Manager Greg Pack said, “We could not be more excited for Mel to step up into this pivotal role in our company. She has a tremendous amount of experience and the support of a devout group of mountain professionals to take us to the next level as we expand our operations.” Toney most recently served as Director of Mountain Operations and was formerly the Director of Ski Patrol and Risk Management.

In her twenty-plus years at Meadows she held many mountain operational positions including patroller, safety host supervisor, trail crew, lift operator, patrol supervisor, patrol manager and assisted with lift maintenance for a summer. A life-long skier Toney grew up in Portland raced for Lincoln high school and was on the MASRA (Meadows) race team. She graduated from Grant high school and Lewis and Clark college where she ski raced all four years.

Toney joins the Executive Leadership Team, "Stoked to be moving into the V.P. of Mountain Operations position and looking forward to the change and growth this opportunity presents, for our team and for me professionally. Mt. Hood Meadows makes a conscience effort to constantly change and improve operations and relationships and I’m happy to be a part of that at a higher level."

Toney credits Steve Warila, who held the V.P. of Mountain Operations for helping to prepare her for the position, saying, "Without mentorship from Steve and the assistance of my team I wouldn’t be in this position. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work even more closely with a team of excellent leaders."

Warila will continue to focus his efforts on the future at Meadows, as V.P. of Planning.
