Marmot Basin Opens Marmot Peak
Marmot Basin is proud to have the highest base elevation of any major Canadian ski areas at 1,698 meters which means Marmot Basin is one of the best places for spring skiing.
On March 9, 2021, the long-coveted and jaw-dropping slopes to the skiers right of Marmot Peak opened for the first time in Marmot Basin’s 56 year history. There was a tremendous amount of planning and work that went into getting this exciting advanced and expert terrain open.
This is the epitome of high alpine riding - steep, snow-filled, treeless terrain with breathtaking views of the surrounding Rocky Mountain Peaks.
Hats off to the safety and operations team for making this dream a reality.
Marmot Basin has 91 named runs on four mountain faces with 3,000 vertical feet of drop. The area has a lift capacity of close to 12,000 skiers per hour on seven lifts. The season runs from mid-November to early May.
Marmot Basin's facilities and services include 7 lifts, including the Canadian Rockies Express high speed quad chair - the longest in the Canadian Rockies, 3 on-mountain day lodges, a full-service Rental Shop, Snow Sports School, eateries, a nursery and retail shop.
Marmot Basin is located twenty minutes south of the town of Jasper, which provides for the needs of over two million visitors a year. Jasper National Park offers Rocky Mountain vistas, hiking and trail riding tours, whitewater rafting, and other year-round attractions.
