Mark Tilston Named Canada Men’s Head Coach
Alpine Canada is excited to welcome Mark Tilston as its new men’s head coach for the 2020-21 season. Tilston held senior coaching roles with the British and Spanish Ski Teams, and most recently spent five years as Executive Director of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
Tilston brings more than 25 years of experience in sport and 15 years coaching at the World Cup level. He has a degree in Applied Sport Science from the University of Edinburgh.
In his new role, Tilston will oversee both the men’s tech and speed teams and will work closely with the coaching staff and our provincial partners to develop young talent. Tilston’s philosophy is to develop the person, the athlete, the skier and then the ski racer.
“I am incredibly excited about this opportunity and am really looking forwards to work with the team of world class athletes and coaches,” said Tilston. “I hope to bring my experience of World Cup skiing combined with my education in sports science to maximise the integration of all components that need to come together to create world class performances.”
Alpine Canada’s new High Performance Director of Alpine, Phil McNichol, said the addition of Mark to the team is a step towards renewed success for the alpine program.
“We are ecstatic to have Mark join our team and the collective long-term effort to advance our high performance programs,” said McNichol. “His vast knowledge and experience in sports science, the Canadian domestic alpine system and World Cup coaching will have a high impact on the work ahead.”
Tilston will begin his new position on May 1, 2020.
