Mammoth Mountain Closes Out Record-Breaking Ski Season

Mammoth Mountain closed for the season on Sunday, August 6, after an incredible 275-day journey filled with record-breaking snowfall. The resort received over 700 inches of snow this season, which is the most in its history.

The extended season was a huge hit with skiers and snowboarders. Mammoth Mountain saw record-breaking visitation this season, with over 2.5 million people skiing and snowboarding on the mountain.

The final day of skiing was a festive occasion, with skiers and snowboarders enjoying free stickers, coffee, juice, and donuts. There was also live music and a raffle for prizes.

"It's been an incredible season," said Rusty Gregory, president of Mammoth Mountain. "We're so grateful for our guests who came out to enjoy the snow with us. We'll see you next year!"

“This is a completely unique circumstance,” said Tim LeRoy, a spokesperson for Mammoth Mountain

“That amount of snow – what’s required to keep a town running and how difficult simple tasks can be – is not to be underestimated.” LeRoy added. “From a community perspective it’s a lot.”

The extended ski season was made possible by a series of storms that hit the Sierra Nevada mountains in the spring and early summer. The storms brought much-needed moisture to the region, which helped to replenish the snowpack.

The extended ski season was a boon for the local economy. Mammoth Mountain is a major tourist destination, and the extended season helped to attract visitors from all over the world. The resort also employed thousands of people during the season, providing a much-needed boost to the local economy.

Mammoth Mountain is already gearing up for the 2023-2024 ski season. The resort plans to open on October 29, 2023, and is already making snow.
