Levi Building New Glacier Express Chairlift
The Levi Glacier Express chairlift is part of a major development project by Oy Levi Ski Resort Ltd
The Levi Glacier Express chairlift is almost ready. From November, the cable car will transport up to 3,000 skiers per hour at maximum capacity.
The opening of the ski season will be celebrated in Levi on October 7, when the North chairlift will start operating on the Eturinte slopes," says Jouni Palosaari, CEO of Levi Ski Resort.
The new Glacier Express chairlift replaces three tow lifts.
Next to the new chairlift, the slope is being straightened and no longer runs sideways as before. It was a large project, moving 20,000 cubic meters of earth onto the slope, which is equivalent to around 2,000 truck journeys. The glacier is scheduled to officially open next year in September/October 2023.
"When we make snow on the slope this year, parts of the slope will be permanently covered with snow and ice. Thanks to the glacier, we can already offer training opportunities for alpine groups in September. The glacier offers us five runs next to each other and is a great place for training at the beginning of the season. In future, you no longer have to go south, you can train here in the north right from the start of the season,” says Jouni Palosaari, CEO of the Levi ski area
