Les Gets Gets Ready For Winter

Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil international ski area, comprising 12 resorts between France and Switzerland. At the gateway to Geneva, this is a borderless area of fir trees and alpine pastures, offering recreational skiing, breathtaking panoramas and easy, immediate ski-in ski-out access to the lifts. There are two slopes on either side of the village, Les Chavannes and Mont Chéry. These two technically diverse playgrounds are perfect for good skiers and beginners alike.

Here are some of the key highlights to expect from this winter.

  • New covered ski lift for beginners This winter, a new covered magic carpet will be inaugurated on the Plateau des Chavannes, in the Mappys beginners' area. In order to better meet the needs of beginner skiers, the old magic carpet has been extended by twenty metres, giving it a total length of 102 metres and a capacity of up to 1,200 people per hour. The new magic carpet is longer and faster, serving a 125m green run. It's the perfect place for beginners to learn!
  • New concept store opens – La Galta Ingrid, a passionate treasure hunter, connoisseur and fashion designer, is opening a new establishment this winter: Le Galta is a concept store that aims to give a new lease of life to forgotten treasures by offering unique, eco-friendly products. Each item on offer is carefully selected for its character and history. This original concept store offers 4 services: a shop selling second-hand objects and clothing, a sewing service, an upcycling workshop and an interior design service. Through these different activities, Ingrid hopes to share her love of vintage and point the way towards a new way of consuming that is more local, virtuous and respectful of the environment. More than just a store, Le Galta is an adventure through time and style, where every visitor can find their own treasure. Authenticity and sustainability are the watchwords of this new place, which offers a real return to our roots.
  • Travellers by train get a 10% reduction on their ski pass Because transport is responsible for around 75% of greenhouse gas emissions in the tourism sector, soft mobility is a priority here. Firstly, in the village, with the pedestrianisation of the centre and the introduction of a highly efficient and reliable shuttle bus system (free of charge!). Then, beyond the village, LesGet soffers regula rinter-resort shuttle services, including a connection to the Cluses SNCF station (just 25 minutes away). And considering that home-to-holiday travel alone accounts for 68% of total emissions, it's great to be able to get here (easily!) by train. Arrive by train (to Cluses) and free shuttle to Les Gets to get 10% reduction on a ski pass (minimum 3 day pass).
  • New food recycling project starts In association with Montagne Verte, a new service to collect food waste from hotels and chalets by e-bike launches.
  • Ski Gathering – solo ski trips In collaboration with the company Ski Gathering, Raphaël Cabuis from Montagne & Tradition is offering holidays that bring solo travellers together for a mountain getaway. The idea is to share an enriching human experience, meet new people and enjoy a rejuvenating yet fun holiday, both on and off the slopes, in the company of people who don't yet know each other. The flexibility of this concept appeals to visitors, who can enjoy the company of other guests whenever they like, while giving themselves welcome moments of freedom. These holidays are aimed at all age groups, from experienced skiers to beginners, from novices to those used to solo holidays, all of whom share a passion for skiing and winter sports, an open mind and a desire to meet new people. Themed weeks allow travellers to choose the holiday that suits them best: a week for beginners, for the under-35s, for the over-50s, and so on. Just a stone's throw from the slopes at Les Perrières, the chalet offers every amenity to make you feel at ease and enjoy your stay to the full: sauna, outdoor jacuzzi, indoor pool, bar, reading room, tea room, etc. theskigathering.com
  • Popular restaurant Le Wetzet gets major upgrade Located at the heart of the ski slopes on the Chavannes side, the Wetzet restaurant has reinvented itself following major refurbishment work. On the agenda: new à la carte dishes, a larger kitchen and bar for even faster service, as well as brand new decor. While the atmosphere at Le Wetzet remains simple, friendly and warm, the interior has been modernised by an architect. The exterior façade has also been redesigned with a mix of wood and stone. The restaurant serves generous family cuisine, including paninis, homemade soups, omelettes and the speciality, the Reblochon crêpe. Roger, who used to run the restaurant with the help of his three children, Vincent, Ingrid and Perrine, is now letting his two daughters take over the running of the establishment.

With its eco-tourism philosophy and positioning, the resort of Les Gets is taking steps to enhance and preserve its mountain environment. As part of a global approach, this environmental commitment translates into a promise of quality and the municipality of Les Gets is an active participant in the biodiversity observatory launched by the 7 French ski areas of the Portes du Soleil, with the aim of reconciling the practice of tourism with the preservation of our natural heritage. From Natura 2000 listed sites to the inclusion of the Chablais as a UNESCO World Geopark site, from the exceptional flora and fauna to the signing of the ‘’Zero Pesticides‘’ environmental initiative, the resort has a heightened awareness of its natural heritage, but also of the vulnerabilities that accompany it.
