Lech Zurs Relies On Cutpower For Decarbonization
Hamburg-based CUT POWER AG has laid the foundation for CO2-neutral mobility in Lech Zürs am Arlberg. According to the motto GOOD BYE CO2, in the future all EV drivers will be able to charge their vehicle super quickly and conveniently at the CutPower Charging Hub directly on site.
Given the importance for the environment and the preservation of the ecosystem, Gerhard Lucian, Mayor of Lech, and CutPower CEO Karl Eberhard Hunke recognized the added value for the destination, guests and residents at an early stage in order to work together to push this project forward towards implementation. Thanks to the determination and the cooperative relationship, this project can now start on November 30, 2023, with commendable cooperation in planning and construction together with the Lech building yard and other regional companies: just in time, one day before the opening of the winter season the system is technically in operation.
“With this offer for super-fast charging of electric cars and motorcycles, we of course also want to appeal to our summer guests who also travel to Lech and Zürs via the Lechtal,” adds Mayor Gerhard Lucian.
In the first phase, ultra-fast and ecological charging of electric vehicles will be possible at a total of four charging points using two CutPower towers, which are powered by green electricity. In addition to the fast charging option, the focus is primarily on comfort and safety. The generous parking space dimensions enable barrier-free entry and exit, the maneuvering of larger vehicles and convenient loading and unloading of the trunk. Cable management ensures easy handling when connecting to the vehicle. The additional roof protects the user from snow and rain during the simple and multilingual operating process on the large user display. When darkness sets in, the lighting integrated into the roof provides additional security and enables optimal orientation. The charging stations are equipped with a card reader to ensure an uncomplicated payment process with all common cashless charging cards as well as EC and credit cards.
The CutPower app makes this process even easier. Holders of a CutPower charging card have the opportunity to charge and pay at over 500,000 public charging points across Europe. A total of 6 super-fast charging points are planned, the first four will go live at the end of the month.
The new Lech Charging Hub from CutPower is located in the middle of the village, just a few steps away from the Oberlecher Bergbahn and the “Lechwelten” opening in June 2024. Surrounding shops and restaurants invite you to linger while the charging process takes place.
The CutPower Tower itself is high-tech “made in Austria”: battery-backed charging machines from KREISEL that achieve a charging output of up to 180 kW per charging point. KREISEL, based in Rheinbach near Linz, is a strategic partner of CutPower and belongs to the global JOHN DEERE group of companies. Together, ultra-fast charging has already been made possible at other locations with low network connection power - which will continue to offer an enormous advantage for other communities and places with low network capacity.
“In addition to the already planned locations throughout Germany and Europe, we will specifically bring other regions and holiday destinations in Austria and Switzerland into the green area with the use of this technology, our know-how and investment in CutPower Charging Hubs,” said Gideon Klaerner, Head of Expansion & Innovation at CutPower.
Lech mayor Gerhard Lucian, himself a committed electric car driver for years, adds: “The destination of Lech Zürs has always stood for the combination of tradition and innovation at the highest level. The new charging hub is the next step in e-mobility for Lech and another milestone on the way to becoming a climate-friendly region with a pioneering character. It's a great deal for locals and guests alike. We are very much looking forward to partnering with CutPower.”
