Kronplatz I+II Cable Car Scheduled For 2025 Overhaul & Replacement
The Kronplatz I+II will be overhauled in 2025. This very costly general overhaul led to the decision to take a further qualitative step and replace the entire existing facility with a new one that will be more efficient in operation and more comfortable for our guests.
The 35 million project is being financed without any public contributions from the Province of Bolzano.
The project includes:
- New cable car in two sections
- New location of the middle station with piste connection
- Improved energy efficiency of the new cable car through direct drive
- Reduction of the lift supports dating back to 1986 by more than half
- More comfort thanks to a modern, spacious and fast lift system with 10-person cabins
- New red valley run to Reischach
- No impact on protected areas, such as drinking water protection areas, wetlands or rivers
- Compensation measures benefit the local population and environment
- The Kronplatz cable car, in coordination with the forestry authority, undertakes to massively support the reforestation of the forest damaged by the bark beetle
MORE COMFORT
The new cable car will not only be more spacious but also more comfortable. The new, modern design offers an incomparable panoramic view over the entire valley.
The increased efficiency allows for a more comfortable transport of our guests with lower energy consumption.
NEW CONNECTING RUNWAY
Part of the project is also a new “red” connecting piste between the Sylvester, the new middle station and the Herrnegg, to allow all skiers to descend into the valley and at the same time relieve the pressure on the Sylvester piste.
ASCENT SKI TOURISTS
The AVS trail from Reischach to the summit, which was built in the 1970s and served as a toboggan run in winter until the 1980s, is designated as an official ascent route for ski tourers.
KRONPLATZ I+II: A 60-YEAR SUCCESS STORY
1960-63
Founding of the Kronplatz Seilbahn GmbH and construction of the Kronplatz I + II cable cars.
1963
The new cable car goes into operation, marking the beginning of the tourist cable car operation in the Pustertal. From the very beginning, Kronplatz also takes on social responsibility, continuously reinvests the profits achieved and thus also contributes to the creation of new jobs.2003
The modernization is continuing, the 6-person cable car is being replaced by an 8-person cable car. Kronplatz I+II has recorded constant passenger numbers for 20 years now.
Today
The Kronplatz Group, with its 600 shareholders, is the driving force behind tourism in the Puster Valley. Since the Kronplatz I+II is the main feeder system and the actual backbone of the entire ski area, the Kronplatz Group has decided to replace the now aging system with a modern 10-person cable car. This will create the conditions for a successful future.
