Kriens-Pilatus Kulm Closing For Repairs January 10 To February 18, 2022
Pilatus-Bahnen AG will close the mountain completely from January 10 to February 18, 2022. The control of the panorama gondola will be completely replaced during this time. This means that no restaurants are offered on Pilatus-Kulm, Fräkmüntegg and Krienseregg and the Pilatus Kulm Hotels are also closed. The cog railway is also in hibernation until May 26, 2022 and therefore the mountain cannot be reached.
The panorama gondola lift from Kriens to Fräkmüntegg went into operation in 1996. Since then, it has been doing its job reliably and is regarded as a feeder to the local recreation area on the Pilatus and the first part of the journey to Pilatus Kulm. Experience has shown that the replacement of the control is due after 20-25 years. This point in time has now been reached and the railway's electronics will be completely replaced. The Pilatus Railways are also investing in loudspeakers on the masts that would be used for announcements in an emergency. This guarantees the safety and availability of the railway for the next few years.
The replacement of the control is planned in detail and from January 10th, work will be carried out in 6-day operation from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Godi Koch, CEO of Pilatus-Bahnen AG, says: "On February 19, we will go into operation with a state-of-the-art control system that will allow us to offer our guests the wonderful long-term trip to the Fräkmüntegg without any problems."
What work will be done:
- Dismantling of old installations and facilities
- New wiring of the garage, stations and supports
- Replacement of control cabinets on all stations
- Replacement electric motor section 2
- Replacement hydraulic unit
- Track PA / loudspeaker
- Complete overhauls of braking systems
- Installation of fire alarm systems in Krienseregg and Kriens
