Jottnar Launches New And More Sustainable Update To The Fenrir And Asta Jackets

Outdoor technical clothing specialist, Jöttnar, has today announced plans to unveil a world first fabric combination at ISPO Munich that will adorn their hero goose down jacket – the Fenrir; and its gilet counterpart, Asta – from January 2025 onward.

The new collaboration will see sustainably sourced NetPlus fabric, combined with performance leading Pertex® Quantum Pro to provide climbers, skiers and adventurers with a performance driven garment with sustainability at its core.

The new collaboration between NetPlus® fabric and Pertex Quantum Pro is the latest in over a decade of refinement of the Fenrir with the last 18 months spent developing its eco credentials by combining these technologies into one complete warm, water-resistant, windproof and breathable product.

The addition of NetPlus fabric reduces the overall environmental impact of the jacket, as its production is 20% more efficient at reducing greenhouse gas emission; uses 70% less water, 67% less fossil fuel; and 68% less energy overall to produce compared to using virgin nylon.

“Our community want world class performance and are also conscious about the environment,” said Steve Howarth, co-founder of Jöttnar.  “Not only is this world first combination adding to our founding philosophy as outdoor clothing innovators, it also improves the performance of our garments through an increased hydrostatic head, resulting in more weather resistance versus our previous fabric. We can track the fishing nets used in the jacket all the way back to their source – with our first collaboration incorporating recycled fishing nets from the coast of Chile. We hope those who know and love Jöttnar already will enjoy wearing something more sustainable and we are very excited about this collaboration, aiming to extend it across more of our products and kickstarting a new focus for the brand moving forward.”

The global unveiling of the new Fenrir jacket and Asta gilet will be in Munich at ISPO on December 03 -05, ahead of both going on sale to the general public from mid-January.

  • About the Fenrir The Fenrir offers our optimum warmth-to-weight ratio in a highly compressible package for versatility on and off the mountain. Boasting 850 Fill Power hydrophobic goose down in a premium 93/7 down/feather ratio. Renowned for performance, build quality and longevity, it has an outstanding review pedigree drawn from over a decade of iteration. Recently refined with technical fine-tuning, including an improved fit and new sleeve design for ease of motion and mountain sports functionality, moisture zone optimisation, a new concealed hood adjustment, new self-stuff pocket, and a cleaner aesthetic. Wear as a mid-layer or a standalone piece. Synthetic fill placement optimised for neck and cuff moisture zones further resists moisture. Jöttnar’s signature no-snag hem cords reduce risk of gear tangling. Technical stretch cuffs allow bulky gloves to be worn.
  • About the Asta Asta is a lightweight hydrophobic goose down gilet for flexibility on the mountain and everyday wear in the valley. Built on the same solid foundations as the Fenrir, along with the 850 Fill Power goose down in a 93/7 down/feather ratio. A multi-use piece; wear under a shell as a minimalist mid layer for core warmth, or as a standalone. Recent upgrades include a cleaner aesthetic and improved performance fit.

Howarth adds; “We founded Jöttnar not from a background in the outdoor industry, but from a career as Royal Marines Commandos where the performance of our kit could be the difference between life and death. We know how essential having the right gear is, so we test everything in the most extreme conditions from the wilds of Arctic Norway to Antarctica with our goal always to produce technical outdoor clothing that delivers outstanding performance in the most brutal environments. Trustworthiness and reliability are cornerstones of Jöttnar, so our community can be assured that the performance of all our clothing, including the new Fenrir and Asta, is of the highest standard and they can rely on our gear when pushing their limits. Fabric and material performance, as well as choice, are prerequisites in achieving and maintaining this trust.”

To be the first to see this world first combination of fabrics incorporated into the newest iteration of the Fenrir and Asta – join them in Hall A1, stand 115 at ISPO.

Jöttnar was born in Arctic Norway and is the creation of two former Royal Marine Commandos who make technical clothing for climbing, skiing and adventure. The founders are lifelong mountaineers, climbers and skiers, and that DNA runs deep in the company. Not only do they design the gear themselves, they personally test it to destruction along with the help of their professional team of athletes. Every Jöttnar piece is designed with a clear purpose: to perform on the mountain, where conditions demand the absolute best. Build quality and longevity sit at the core of the brand. Trust and reliability are the key reasons why guides, mountain rescue teams, expeditions, specialist military units and professional athletes choose Jöttnar.
