Ismo Hamalainen Is New Executive Director Of Finnish Ski Association

Ismo Hämäläinen has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Finnish Ski Association. Hämäläinen will follow Mika Kulmala as the leader of Finnish snow sports, starting 1stSeptember.

Hämäläinen is well-known for his work as a Cross-Country Skiing coach in the Finnish and German national teams from 2003 to 2009. Before and after, Hämäläinen was deeply involved with testing and physiological training. The last six years he has worked as the head of the training centre in Vierumäki, Sports Institute of Finland. 

As an experienced sports leader Hämäläinen is enthusiastic to begin the work in Finnish Ski Association and for the snow sports in Finland. 

”As the Executive Director I have the great possibility to implement the new strategy of Finnish Ski Association into the action. I believe in co-operation and will work closely with the athletes, coaches, employees, ski clubs and partners”, says Hämäläinen. 

The President of Finnish Ski Association, Markku Haapasalmi is convinced that Hämäläinen has the knowledge and skills that are crucial leading Finnish snow sports.

”Ismo Hämäläinen commands the big picture of snow sports in Finland. His experience as the Head of Vierumäki Olympic Training Centre was definitive in the evaluating process and we believe that his personality and management skills will take the Association to the desired direction”, says Haapasalmi.

Until the end of August, Marleena Valtasola will serve as the interim Executive Director.
