IOC President Visits World Cup Finals
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach apparently enjoyed the skiing action so much during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games that one of his first official trips following the Games was to visit the 2018 Audi FIS Ski World Cup Season Finals in Åre (SWE).
Bach travelled to the northern Sweden town on Thursday and Friday and took in the Alpine Team Event, which made its highly successful Olympic debut this year. During his visit IOC President Bach staged a press conference, together with representatives of the Swedish Olympic Committee to discuss the possibilities and options surrounding a Swedish bid for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. The candidature plans foresee Åre hosting the Alpine, as well as most Freestyle and Snowboard events during the Games.
Naturally, President Bach also took the opportunity to greet the eight participating teams in the Alpine Team Event under sunny skies and -15 temperatures.
Throughout the visit, the President was accompanied by IOC Executive Board Member Gunilla Lindberg, who is also Secretary General of the Swedish Olympic Committee and of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC)
