- More than 300 schoolchildren took part in the final event of the school ski course initiative Active School in Filzmoos
The Pongau holiday village was voted the best ski area in the entire Alpine region by visitors to the winter sports portal Schneehoehen.de. The Filzmoos ski area, which is particularly suitable for children, families, beginners and those returning to skiing, was also awarded first place in the categories "Families & Children" and "Beginners" in addition to the overall victory. There were two second places for the categories "cross-country skiing" and "value for money". The other places in the overall ranking are occupied by the South Tyrolean ski area Val Gardena in Gröden and the Salzburg ski area Zauchensee-Flachauwinkl. Head of Tourism Peter Donabauer is proud of the awards he has received: "The focus of our work is in the area of gentler tourism away from the big events. This concept is gaining more and more followers. This is also reflected in winning the categories Family & Children and Beginners, about which we we are particularly pleased." Away from alpine skiing, Filzmoos offers guests who are looking for exercise and relaxation in untouched nature numerous winter leisure activities such as winter and snowshoe hikes, ski tours, cross-country skiing, tobogganing or romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides.
The Filzmoos ski area with eight lifts, 14 slopes and 20 kilometers of slopes is particularly suitable for beginners and families with children due to the wide slopes. The ski mountains Rossbrand (1600 meters) and Großberg (1380 meters) as well as the slopes in the district of Neuberg offer easy terrain as well as red and black slopes for ambitious skiers and professionals. Filzmoos offers a high level of snow security and there are no waiting times at the lifts. A new six-seater chairlift was opened in December. It is only a few kilometers to the large ski areas of the Ski amadé region with 270 lifts.
Presentation of the award as part of the Action Day with 300 schoolchildren
Martin Iwanski, initiator of the Schneehoehen.de award, personally presented the award to the Filzmoos tourism manager on Wednesday (30 March) as part of the Action Day. The Filzmoos ski area was selected by the Active School organization as a destination for school ski courses and as the event location for the Action Day. Filzmoos offers ideal conditions for this, as the town has one of the largest ski course areas in the valley and has an excellent reputation as a winter sports center for children and young people. More than 300 students from all over Salzburg took part in the final event, the Action Day.
For the head of tourism in Filzmoos, Peter Donabauer, Active School, Action Day and Filzmoos are the 'perfect match': "After all, the Filzmoos ski region offers what is probably the largest ski course area in the middle of town, three excellent ski and snowboard schools specializing in children's and school ski courses, and a ski area , which received the Ski Area Award 2022 mainly because of the wide and safe ski slopes and the optimal offer for beginners, children and families. We are proud to have been selected as a partner by the Active School and we would like to thank our partners, the Filzmoos mountain railways, the Bögei ski school and the Exklusiv ski school, the Filzmoos mountain rescue service, the Austrian Red Cross search dog squadron and the Filzmoos balloon team .”
A practice session by the Red Cross search dogs could also be admired on the Action Day. Leo Slotta-Bachmayr, commander of the Red Cross search dogs, says: "We have two human-dog teams that work for us in mantrailing, i.e. searching for people, and in avalanche search, i.e. searching for and rescuing people who have been buried "We are very happy about the invitation and that we can show the students our work up close and in a safe environment. This way they are made aware of the topics of rescue and emergency care on the slopes and of course it is also nice that they can see our dogs get to know each other and see 'in action'.”
