Iglu Expands Offering To Bosnia & Herzegovina

This is the first ski season in which Iglu Ski have offered ski trips to the 1984 Winter Olympics venue of the Dinaric Alps, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The two resorts offered by Iglu Ski have proved popular so far, with  hundreds of guests choosing the low-cost and novel place to ski. Forward bookings for next season 23/24 are strong, showing the growing awareness of Bosnia as the perfect place for many skiers.

Iglu Ski’s Managing Director Simon McIntyre says, ‘It’s always good to offer a new country for skiing and boarding. Bosnia has attracted both beginners and those looking for a new destination to ski. Most guests are family groups looking for mix-difficulty slopes and resort activities for all ages. We’re pleased to see some repeat bookings for next season, and lots of new enquiries coming through’.

Bosnia appeals most to beginners and intermediate skiers, with lots of blue runs, speedy lifts, and everything in close proximity. There are two resorts to choose from, the larger Jahorina, just 45 minutes from Sarajevo airport and Bjelašnica, a quieter resort, just 35 minutes from Sarajevo.

An extras-bundle including a lift pass, ski school and skis/boots comes in at just £315 per person, making a holiday here very affordable.

Jahorina has 47 kms of runs, 90% of which are reds and blues.

Jahorina ski resort was the site of the Women's Alpine Winter Olympic competitions during the 1984 Winter Olympics, that took place from 8–19 February 1984 in Sarajevo, SFR Yugoslavia.[2] Starting from 1984, Jahorina ski resort bares the official name "Olympic Center Jahorina".

Since the 2010s, the Jahorina ski resort went thorough several investment cycles with aim to renew its aging infrastructure. The ski lift system was upgraded from 2012 to 2018 with new Leitner chairlifts.

During 2017, the brand new snowmaking infrastructure was deployed in ski resort, along with huge artificial lake built on top of Jahorina mountain. In December 2018, the Jahorina ski resort has officially put the new snowmaking system in use, covering all ski slopes with artificial snow.

As of 2018, the Jahorina ski resort is the largest and most popular ski resort in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Apart from alpine skiing, snowboarding, hiking and sledding, it offers a variety of outdoor sports and activities. The nordic skiing tracks, cross-country trails and various other sport facilities offer additional options for athletes and tourists. The floodlighting system enables night skiing on Poljice ski piste. In 2018, the ski resort recorded 185,000 visitors, the biggest count since the 1980s.

The Jahorina ski resort was among the venues where the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival took place during February 2019.

The resort of Bjelašnica has 12 km of slopes and is the highest spot to ski in Bosnia.

Bjelašnica is one of the most popular mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina,

The slopes on Babin Do are at the very top of the European ski slopes. The ski resort has eight ski pistes and five children’s spistes, as well as three cable cars and five ski lifts, which also lead to the very top of Bjelašnica, at 2,067 meters above sea level. Bjelašnica is therefore a unique and authentic mountain that certainly represents one of the many jewels of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Part of the trails are equipped with high-quality lighting for night skiing, and the Ski Center also has a snowmaking system

Bosnian ski areas have a good range of accommodation, mostly in close proximity to lifts, and après is usually in hotel bars and restaurants.
