Huge Artificial Ski Slope Opens In Lviv, Ukraine. Snow In Winter, Plastic In Summer. Claims To Be World's Largest
Skiing and snowboarding is possible here all year round. The highlight is ski in/ski out at the mountain restaurant. Skis or boards are removed (as in winter) after the lift exit in front of the restaurant, which goes to the restaurant or onto the terrace.
After refreshment skis are on again and off we go into the valley. In the valley area there is enough space for the ski school to train beginners and children. There is also a restaurant in the immediate vicinity, where parents can follow the ski school operations from a distance.
The well-prepared tubing run and alpine ski slope could already be tested for a few weeks last winter - also by the youth of the surrounding ski clubs, who are already looking forward to the training opportunities for slalom and giant slalom in the summer season.
Guests can rent all sports equipment at the valley station. From December, snow-making systems will start automatically if it is sufficiently cold. The hybrid tubing track will change again in November. The flexible Tubtrax-M2 side modules are removed and a flat mat surface is formed immediately.
Depending on requirements, alpine skiing can now also be practiced there or several tubing tracks can be modeled out of snow. At the same time, the snowmaking system for the three (!) slopes starts and transforms the mountain into a winter landscape - until around March, when preparations for the summer season are already underway.
Night skiiing is spectacular. The ski area and the tubing run are brightly illuminated by a generous flight light system.
In addition to the extensive equipment for the installation and operation of the 19,000 m2 tubing track and mat ski slope, other equipment has also been installed: Doppelmayr 4-seater chairlift, Axess payment system with separate, electronic entrance area for the tubing track and ski slope, two conveyor belts (MEB Impianti) for the tubing run, extensive snowmaking systems from TechnoAlpin, lighting system for the entire facility, Silvano Vidoi slope safety system, slope preparation machines from Kässbohrer and many other small technical solutions.
Skitrax World supplied all equipment for the installation and operation of the alpine mat ski slope and tubing track on 17 trucks. This includes the Dry Slope Drainage Fleece (DSDF) for the entire floor insulation and water drainage, 70,000 special ground pegs for ground attachment, the Slopetrax and Tubtrax plastic mats, Stopping Fleece, 300 tubing tires and the fast lubricant Slide Liquid.
There is a modern 5-star luxury hotel with 6 (!) restaurants, event and conference halls, many smaller rooms for meetings, a water park, island with beach, swimming pools with a large SPA & sauna landscape and an amphitheater was built around an artificial lake.
The facility also has the largest soccer academy in the country with 6 large soccer fields, training rooms and a medical park. The 1000 covered parking spaces equipped with solar panels are free for visitors. The aim is to manage the entire hotel and sports facilities in a climate-neutral manner and to operate them primarily with solar energy. Plans for an additional large indoor football stadium are already underway.
The view from the hotel room across the lake to the world's largest mat ski slope & tubing track (approx. 19,000 m2) is spectacular. Skitrax World supplied the equipment for these facilities and conducted the training for the staff. On a 250m long tubing track with 6 tracks installed next to each other, 2 conveyor belts lead to the start.
After a personal briefing from the service staff, the Skitrax Epic Tubing tires will take you down towards Emily See. The approx. 45 sec. continuous ride has two lowering levels, which give each tube an extra kick of speed.
Next to it is the entrance to a ski area with winter and summer operation. Two slopes with Slopetrax plastic mats, each with a length of approx. 460 m and a slope width of approx. 20 m, lead skiers and snowboarders down to the lift entrance at the lake. There, a modern 4-seater chairlift awaits transport back to the top of the mountain.
Upon arrival, a mighty red lion greets you, standing right next to the lift exit. It is the mascot of the Ukrainian football club RUKH, whose owner also built this entire hotel & leisure complex.
The people of Lviv are delighted to have received such a professional sports and recreation complex. Everyone hopes that this unique facility will not fall victim to the current war situation.
