Hochoetz Ski Area Invests In Infrastructure For Young Talent And Beginners
As usual, the Hochoetz ski region is expanding its offerings at the start of the season with two conveyor belts and a modern drag lift. The three new facilities are aimed at children and winter sports beginners. The company invested over a million euros for their skiing fun and “winter high in Oetz”. Away from the fun on the slopes in one of the sunniest ski areas in Austria, a new snowshoe trail over 5.6 kilometers in length beckons.
At the start of the 2023/2024 winter season, the Hochoetz mountain railways are presenting a number of new lifts especially for beginners and children. Over one million euros were raised to build two conveyor belts and replace the popular WIDI lift with a modern drag lift. “In addition to a varied mix of slopes for all skill levels, it is important to us to also offer the right climbing aids for the first steps in the snow. With the expanded offering, we are now enabling even more safe skiing fun for families and beginners in skiing and snowboarding,” explains Michaela Burger, managing director of the Hochoetz ski region.
Comfortable conveyor belts for beginners
The new WIDI band directly at WIDIVERSUM is ideal for all children who want to practice “pizza cuts” and their first turns in the snow with their parents or grandma and grandpa. The 15 meter long covered conveyor belt can also be used with Zipflbob or similar sports equipment. It thus complements the existing offer of two “magic carpets” in this area, which are exclusively available for ski school operations. The second new addition is called Ötziband and is located in the immediate vicinity of the mountain station and the panoramic restaurant. This facility is also covered, 53 meters long and can be used by all winter sports enthusiasts.
WIDI lift more modern and longer
The WIDI lift also received a modern update this year. The 2023 version is now even longer and ultra-modern for children and ski beginners. There are two brand new conveyor belts available for practice in the immediate vicinity of the mountain station: the WIDI and Ötzibands. For those who are already a little more experienced, there are three drag lifts in this area for perfecting your first turns. The entire area is clearly visible from the terrace of the panoramic restaurant or the Crystal Bar, so that parents can keep an eye on their older children while taking a coffee break in the sun.
News for snowshoe fans
The unique range of secured and well-marked off-piste snowshoe trails continues to grow in Hochoetz. A new, 5.6 kilometer long route leads from the Acherkogel mountain station via the “Acherkogelblick” viewing platform to the Bielefelder Hütte and on to the Schaferkreuz. From there you return to the mountain station. Shorter versions of this tour are also possible. Beginners to snowshoe hiking can rent the necessary equipment directly at the mountain station and try out the attractive winter activity in Hochoetz.
