Hochfugen Readies For 58th Rope Race
On Sunday, April 14th, the Hochfügen ski area once again invites you to the traditional end point of the winter season: the Hochfügen rope race. The event combines tradition, social gatherings and sporting ambition in one breath.
In the legendary rope race for children and adults, skiers in teams of three complete the giant slalom on the Waidoffen 11 slope - connected to each other on the rope. But the rope race is more than just a race: a convivial celebration marks the end of the cold season with live music and a supporting program. “A winter in Hochfügen without the rope race? Unimaginable,” says Helmuth Grünbacher, managing director of the Hochfügen ski lift company. “It is simply the pulsating heart of our end to the season,” continued Grünbacher.
Race start: 9:30 a.m.
The day of the 58th rope race begins early on April 14th at 8:00 a.m. with the allocation of start numbers at the 8er Jet valley station. The first race starts at 9:30 a.m. - traditionally with the children's rope teams. These groups also consist of three skiers who complete the giant slalom course connected to a rope. Only in the racing class, which starts at 10:30 a.m. and fights for the artistically carved challenge cup, does at least one woman have to be part of the rope team. At the end comes the “Fleet 3” – with many diverse teams.
Best atmosphere guaranteed
The end of the season in Hochfügen is a festival for the entire region with entertainment for all ages. The colorful children's program, the U1 afternoon of musicians with "Die Klobnstoana", the band "Sonnwend", the "4 Tiroler", the band " Grenzgängersound aus dem Zillertal" and "Die Woazgruiba aus Südtirol" ensure the best atmosphere on the 8er -Alm. The traditional winter burning takes place on this last day of the season. With the final gondola ride at 5:00 p.m., which takes the participants and spectators back to the valley station, and the night owl bus drives back to Fügen, the Hochfügen team then says "Thank you very much and 'goodbye' until autumn."
