Haute Maurienne Vanoise Promotes To UK Skiers

A preserved destination, at the heart of the Vanoise National Park, the Haute Maurienne Vanoise counts 17 villages and 6 resorts. Easily accessible from the UK by plane but also by train (Modane is 4 hours by TGV from Paris) the Haute Maurienne is the ideal playground for nature lovers, snow sports enthusiasts and budding adventurers.

Valfréjus, La Norma, Aussois, Val Cenis, Bessans and Bonneval sur Arc each have their own identity.

Val Cenis is a lively resort which was recently awarded the Flocon Vert for its eco-friendly initiatives. It has a varied ski area of 125 km and offers dynamic pricing discounts online. Skiers can enjoy up to 58% off!
And new for this winter, Val Cenis is launching a weather guarantee, a unique innovation in Europe. Although the resort’s geographical location and profile mean it can guarantee quality snow, it can’t make the sun shines on the slopes! This season the resort undertakes to refund skiers who experience bad weather. In the event of rain, snow or hail for more than 3 hours between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, the resort commits to reimburse the cost of the day’s skiing, even if you did ski that day! For Val Cenis, a pioneer in dynamic pricing and the 1st resort in France equipped with a fully electric snow groomer, this is yet another great innovation.

"We’re delighted to be the 1re ski resort in Europe to offer a Weather Guarantee option. Our partnership with
Catalate and Sensible Weather enables us to enhance customer experience. Skiers in Val Cenis can concentrate on the pleasures of skiing knowing that they are insured against unpredictable weather conditions".

Located at the end of the valley, Bessans and Bonneval sur Arc boast the sought after certification «Terre d’Alpinisme» – awarded since mountaineering became a part of UNESCO world heritage.

But you don’t need to be an expert mountaineer to enjoy the area. Head to Bonneval sur Arc for a guided ski touring outing towards the Vallonnet glacier. This accessible itinerary, off the beaten track (+ 150 m vertical), takes you to a wild and magical high-mountain setting, close to the fabulous blue ice of the glacier’s terminal moraine (€35 per person with the ESF French Ski School in Bonneval-sur-Arc).

Valfréjus and La Norma are family-friendly resorts with a joint ski pass. La Norma is ideal for young children while Valfréjus is a fun and safe resort for teenagers. A 6-day family pass (2 adults and 2 children) costs €723.90 (if booked online, otherwise €762 in the resort).

If you’re looking to enjoy family ski lessons without blowing your budget, the ESF French Ski School in Aussois proposes a simple solution: Free ski lessons for a 2nd adult when you book lessons for 2 children and 1 adult.

Visitors to Aussois are encouraged to help keep the mountains clean by participating in a winter-long waste sorting operation known as the “Montagne éclatante” campaign: on the slopes, in the surrounding countryside and in the village. Every week, eco- responsible holiday makers are invited to take part in a heritage and clean-up walk, equipped with biodegradable gloves and bin bags. The rubbish collected is sorted before being displayed in transparent containers – an excellent way for the public to appreciate the volume of rubbish left behind during a ski season. Plus, for those who desire to do their own mountain clean-up, kits are available free of charge from the Tourist Office.
