Haute Maurienne Vanoise is committed to sustainable development, determined to preserve its natural heritage:

  • Val Cenis, the largest resort, is certified ‘Flocon Vert’ by the association Mountain Rider
  • The Haute Maurienne Vanoise Tourist Board is currently conducting its first Carbon Assessment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by tourism-related activities.
  • The replacement of the Roches Blanches 4-seater chairlift in Val Cenis involves the use of second-hand equipment made up of parts bought from other resorts (cable elements, seats, stations etc.)

New for this season

  • Carbon Assessment - . Haute Maurienne Vanoise: an exemplary initiative. Tourism of the future is very much focused on environmental issues (climate change, biodiversity). The Haute Maurienne Vanoise Tourist Board is currently conducting its first Carbon Assessment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by tourism-related activities. This medium to long-term plan aims to encourage specific, high impact ac- tions. The assessment will provide the Tourist Board with an analysis tool to guide technical and strategic decisions, both internally and in re- lation to its partners and customers. A welcomed initiative that contri- butes to raising collective awareness and encouraging local stakehol- ders to invest in a greener future.

  • Ski lift - Val Cenis, at the summit of recycling. Val Cenis is yet again demonstrating its sustainable attitude and in- novative ideas in the replacement of the Roches Blanches 4-seater chairlift. Works, undertaken by the Isère-based company Poma, in- volve the use of second-hand equipment made up of parts bought from other resorts (cable elements, seats, stations etc.). This innnova- tive procedure reduces greenhouse gas emissions whilst a combina- tion of second-hand equipment and new elements saves up to 90% in raw materials, mainly steel. The new lift will also have fewer pylons, 7 less than the previous lift, 14 in total. Only 35 of the 400 tonnes of equipment (cables, nuts and bolts and station roof) were manu- factured specifically for the Roches Blanches chairlift project. Once dismantled, the current chairlift, with its 21 pylons and 116 seats, will either be sold for spare parts or in turn be recycled!

Haute Maurienne Vanoise, one of the cradles of mountaineering, boasts exceptional ski touring for every level of skier in each one of the destination’s 6 resorts. Bessans and Bonneval sur Arc boast the sought after certification «Terre d’Alpinisme» – awarded since mountaineering became a part of UNESCO world heritage. Haute Maurienne Vanoise is home to the 2023 and 2024 Ski Mountaineering World Cup winner and leader of the French team, Thibault Anselmet. The discipline will be making its first Olympic appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
