Gstaad - Roland Zegg Will Not Stand For Re Election To Board Of Bergbahnen Destination Gstaad
Roland Zegg will not stand for re-election to the Board of Directors at the BDG General Assembly in August / autumn 2020. Five years after the comprehensive renovation of the BDG, the renovation goals have been largely achieved.
Roland Zegg and his company grischconsulta were commissioned in April 2014 by the municipality of Saanen, the majority shareholder of the BDG at the time, to renovate the mountain railway company, which had suffered financially after several failed attempts. After a first basic rehabilitation plan was rejected by the municipal assembly, in September 2015 all seven partner municipalities of the BDG and the two cantons of Bern and Vaud as well as the general assembly of the BDG approved the modified rehabilitation concept, which had been cleaned up in lengthy negotiations, with high approval. In addition to a profound capital cut and new share capital of CHF 27 million, it also has a majority stake in the region from new private shareholders and chalet owners, investments in renovation of over CHF 70 million,
The seat of the external mountain railway expert and refurbisher on the Board of Directors was not without controversy in 2015; however, the critical voices fell silent soon after the successful implementation of the first restructuring steps. Since then, the Board of Directors and the management of BDG have consistently implemented the restructuring concept and thoroughly reorganized the company internally. As a result, Roland Zegg / grischconsulta was also significantly involved in the development of the "BDG 2022+" corporate strategy. With the renewal of the Saanersloch-Bahn and the Eggli-Bahn, a massive expansion of snowmaking, the facelift of the mountain restaurants and the new Eggli-Restaurant (planned opening in December 2020), all key projects from the renovation concept could be realized within five years. “There is great public acceptance for our mountain railway company again. Today we can say that the BDG is developing in the right direction. We are all proud of that! ” said Heinz Brand, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BDG.
Roland Zegg announced his decision to the Board of Directors of BDG in January 2020. The aim is now to proactively initiate the succession plan and the gradual rejuvenation of the Board of Directors.
