Ground Broken For New Restaurant In Sedrun-Valtgeva Ski Area
The Valtgeva family and beginner ski area in Sedrun is getting a new restaurant with up to 90 seats inside and 150 outside. On April 14, 2023, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Valtgeva restaurant was held by the client representatives, the team of architects and the construction company. The opening is planned for the 2023/24 winter season.
The Valtgeva ski area above the Sedrun train station is large, has an ideal hillside location and is therefore an excellent area for learning to ski and snowboard quickly and easily. It is operated by the Snow Sports School Sedrun with two ski lifts, a magic carpet and a children's area. The Sedrun-Valtgeva ski area will have a new restaurant for the 2023/2024 winter season. The new restaurant replaces the 16-year-old igloo restaurant, which had become dilapidated and no longer met today's restaurant requirements. The new self-service restaurant offers 90 indoor and 86 outdoor seats on the ground floor and 60-80 outdoor seats on the terrace on the upper floor. In addition, the toilet facilities on the ground floor will be renewed and ski lockers will be installed. The total investment for the new restaurant amounts to CHF 2.5 million. Access to the restaurant is barrier-free. It is planned to equip the building with solar panels to generate electricity. The air-to-water heat pump also ensures environmentally friendly heating.
Future of the ski area secured
The current winter has shown how important modern and efficient snow-making systems are for a ski area. That is why the snowmaking system in the Valtgeva ski area is also being optimised, expanded and automated. This is to ensure the availability of the ski area even in winters with little snow and from Christmas to Easter at the latest. Construction is scheduled to start in late summer/autumn 2023 and the total cost will be around CHF 1.5 million.
With the new restaurant and the expanded snowmaking system, the popular ski area for families has a modern infrastructure. Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG thus makes a major contribution to the economic development of the municipality of Tujetsch and the Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis region. The long-term operation of the Valtgeva ski area is thus secured. This is particularly important in view of the additional frequencies to be expected from the Dieni resort.

The ski area extends to almost the 3rd '000 meter high Gemsstock and over the Schneehüenerstock and the Oberalp Pass to Sedrun in Graubünden. With 120 kilometers of pistes and 22 facilities, the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun is the largest ski area in the heart of Switzerland. In total, Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG employs around 500 people at various locations in Andermatt and Sedrun during the high season.
