Grace La Margna St Moritz - Promoting Where Conservation Meets Innovation

Last year, following an extensive transformation, landmark hotel La Margna reopened its doors under a new name. Grace La Margna St Moritz has brought a breath of fresh Swiss air into the iconic alpine destination of St Moritz and is the first hotel opening in more than 50 years. Long-awaited, the birthplace of winter tourism now has a chic new entry to house high society, 365 days a year.

Grace La Margna St Moritz is a 5-star luxury boutique hotel with 74 rooms that combines historic charm with modern luxury. First opened in 1906, the hotel has recently undergone a significant renovation to restore its former glory while introducing contemporary comforts. Located in the heart of St Moritz, the hotel, which is now part of the Small Luxury Hotels portfolio, offers breathtaking views, impeccable service, and a range of world-class facilities, making it a premier destination for travellers seeking an extraordinary alpine experience.

As the property marks one year since opening, here’s a sampling of what’s new and on the horizon:

  • Beefbar - The globally renowned luxury dining concept, Beefbar prepares to open its first Swiss outpost on 1 December, ready to welcome cosmopolitan guests to sample and savour some of Riccardo Giraudi tastiest dishes. Beefbar was created in 2005 by Riccardo Giraudi, who envisioned a modern steakhouse that defies traditional dining norms. With 40 locations around the world, including some of the most glamorous destinations like Monaco, Paris, Hong Kong, and Dubai, Beefbar has become synonymous with exceptional quality, bold flavors, and contemporary design. The brand's ethos is centered on offering the finest meats and ingredients in a relaxed yet stylish environment, making luxury dining accessible to all.Beefbar breaks with the rigid, traditional codes of steakhouses, through its glamorous lines, clear-cut personality and a 360 degrees experience. Fit with private dining, live DJ and vista views, Beefbar is the hottest new ticket in town.
  • Ikon Ski Pass For winter 2024 and 2025, St. Moritz will be accessible on both the Ikon Pass and the Ikon Base, joining Zermatt as the pass’s second ski resort in the Swiss Alps. Ikon Pass holders will get seven unrestricted days with no blackout dates to use between the nine ski areas that comprise St. Moritz; Ikon Base pass holders will get five days, also blackout-free and unrestricted.

Originally built in 1906 in the classic Art Nouveau style, a modern extension – aptly named the Grace Wing - has been added, all led by London architectural firm Divercity Architects.

With additional rooms, featuring full-height windows overlooking Lake St Moritz, and state of the art spa, every detail has been sympathetically considered, nodding to La Margna’s rich history whilst also looking ahead to the future.

The juxtaposition of old and new is visible throughout. Original features such as Nicolaus Hartmann’s 1906 granite pillars, wooden panelling and ornate plasterwork in the 74-room property all complement contemporary comforts and undeniable luxury. This meticulous preservation effort was crucial to maintain the historical character and architectural integrity of the building.

The brave and bold introduction of some architectural ‘catalyst’ moments spark an element of surprise and add to the timeless and sophisticated feel of the hotel, and nothing says this more than the hotel’s bar, N/5 – which defines modern luxury and is undoubtably the beating heart of the property.
