Girls Are Awesome Slay Days 2020 Celebrated Successful Second Edition In Innsbruck

Girls Are Awesome Slays Days 2020 is a wrap. From February 27th – March 1st, 2020 the 2nd edition was hosted in Innsbruck (AUT) and at Snowpark Patscherkofel close by. More than 100 girls and women joined Slay Days, which is all about introducing more women into the freestyle culturespotlighting their creativity and sharing knowledge.

On-Snow - The on-snow element is key for Slay Days and Patscherkofel was the perfect mountain host for the girls, preparing a progressive setup to ride. Fun jamand coaching sessions with Blue Tomato, Burton & Nikita riders like Emma Lantos, Katha Buchegger and Urska Pribosic gave everyone the opportunity to progress. Titles for ‘Best Style, Best Attitude or Best Progression’ were awarded, as well as badges for slamming, jumping, jibbing and... dancing.

Talks & Culture - Slay Days hosted various full house talks and panels, which were well received from the engaged audiences. It all started on Thursday night with a welcome dinner, where snowboarder Aline Bock and skier Lena Stoffel talked about the movie projects they realize together and offered insights into the challenges they face getting the shots. Friday continued with the ‘Women in Boardsports’ panel hosted by Alba Pardo from SBES Magazine (SPA) with Lauren MacCallum, Daniela Meyer and Maria Kuzma. Lauren is a TV presenter, author, all-around activist and heads up Protect Our Winters (POW) in the UK. Daniela is the country manager for Burton in Switzerland and Maria is a snowboarder and architect, creating sustainable water solutions. Saturday night saw the Art & Photo show and panel talk at Kater Noster featuring Elena Könz, Sonia Ziegler and Miriam Lottes before the action moved to the Burton Store where Laura Martinez from ‘Life In White’ presented her travel photography while the crew downed Guld Tuborg beers. All of these ladies shared their inspiring stories and participants used the opportunity to ask questions and get even more insights from them. One of the main messages was: Don’t be afraid to fail, you will grow from each mistake you make. And – most importantly – believe in yourself and follow your own path! The program was completed with daily morning yoga sessions, a DJ workshop at Dachsbau with DJ Crystal, a gathering at the Blue Tomato store, and of course the headliner party at Dachsbau on Saturday night with Danish act Ravi Kuma live in concert.

Alba Pardo stated: “Gatherings like Slay Days are very important to inspire and empower women. In just few days we have managed to reconnect with old friends and make new ones that will last a lifetime all whilst enjoying sunny sessions in the park, powder turns and an inspiration filled side program, but what is truly special were the good vibes from all the awesome girls.” Lauren MacCallum adds: “Girls Are Awesome Slay Days provides an essential platform for women to come together and share knowledge, ideas, encouragement and have aspirational experiences in aspirational places such as the beautiful mountains. It’s having those experiences together that will bond us closer, the high fives, powder laps, bails and fails all mix together to create something special. It’s that unique feeling that will drive us to protect these unique spaces and memories in the future. Which is what Protect our Winters is all about.’

After the successful premiere at Flachauwinkl last season, the move to Innsbruck proved to be the right one for the 2nd edition. A packed house at all events showed how important it is for women to bond, to share their stories and to work together. Nick Bridge, co-founder of Girls Are Awesome: “The energy at Slay Days has been explosive! We’re so lucky to have the opportunity to facilitate the growth and strengthening of this community through the coaching and culture programs. Over 100 participants aged 16 to +40 from all over the world joined forces to really make this a special moment and solidify our belief that there’s a need for these type of events globally. With Slay Days, we try to provide a super supportive space where girls and women can fail, grow, laugh and learn together. It’s also important we select partners who believe in our mission and take their own steps to create positive impact in the world.”

Thanks to partners Burton, Blue Tomato, Nikita, Red Bull and Snowpark Patscherkofel, Girls Are Awesome created another unique event for women in Slay Days.
