German Lift Co Conference In Koblenz Draws Positive Conclusions
The annual cable car industry conference took place in Koblenz on October 10, 2023 with over 150 participants. Representatives of the 120 member companies of the Association of German Cable Cars and T-bar Lifts eV met with international industry representatives from industry, business and sport for a joint exchange.
In addition to sustainability and digitalization, other key topics included renewable energies and technical developments to reduce energy consumption.
“We consciously chose Koblenz as the conference location due to the topic of “urban cable cars”. With this practical example, we as an association hope that more urban cable car systems will be created in the future as a sustainable and innovative mobility offer to supplement local public transport,” says Matthias S Tauch, 1. Board of the VDS.
Dr. Bernhard Harrer, head of the German Economic Institute for Tourism at the University of Munich (DWIF), presented his current value creation study on the topic of “Economic effects through cable cars”.
The aim of the study was to examine the overall economic effects of cable car users in the summer and winter seasons in Germany.
The study shows, among other things, that the value creation effect or income multiplier through cable cars has increased from 5.1 to 5.3.
Translated this means: A job at the cable car creates or secures a total of 5.3 jobs in the region.
The great importance of cable cars from an ecological, social and economic point of view also became clear in the professional exchange between speakers, the VDS board and industry representatives.
The latter are seeing continued demand from guests for the increasingly extensive year-round offerings on the mountain for the whole family and are looking forward to the start of the winter season.
