General Manager Stuart Diver Announces Thredbo’s Opening For winter 2020
Thredbo Resort is planning to open on 22 June, conditions permitting. They say:
We’re thrilled to announce we are planning an Opening Date of 22 June. Thank you for your patience.
To enable the resort to open for skiing and snowboarding, we will be rolling out a revised operating model that has been developed under the advice provided by the NSW Health Department and the State and Federal Governments – please see further information below.
To assist in the easing of restrictions, the Australian Government is asking all Australians to download the COVIDSafe app. This will provide the Government confidence that they can find and contain the spread and will mean Governments can ease restrictions, thereby keeping our season safe
To enable us to ski and snowboard this winter, we’ve needed to implement these preventative measures across the resort this winter:
We’re continuing to operate within the Government’s regulations as and when they evolve in response to the COVID-19 situation
We’re strictly implementing and promoting social distancing measures. Some of these include:
- We’re limiting the number of skiers and snowboarders on the mountain each day by no more than 50% of our normal capacity at this point. All guests will need to pre-purchase day lift passes or multi-day passes prior to arrival via the Online Shop. Numbers will be capped at the maximum number of guests we are permitted to have skiing and snowboarding in the resort per day.
- We’re introducing lift line spacing to adhere to the 1.5m social distancing guidelines. It’s all about keeping it ‘tip to tail’ this season.
- We’re asking guests to socially distance on lifts with two per quad chair, two per gondola cabin and one per T-bar (with the exception of families which will be able to ride together)
- We’re only offering private Snow Sport lessons. No group Snow Sport lessons or programs.
- We’re encouraging contactless payment across the resort.
- We’re adding clear signage and floor markers in all facilities to keep people 1.5m apart.
- We’ve installed physical barriers for queues and counters.
- We’re limiting venue occupancy to align with the Government’s regulations.
- We’re not planning any events that bring large groups of people together.
- We’ve closed our indoor facilities that bring groups of people together including the Thredbo Leisure Centre and Thredbo Childcare.
We’re strictly adhering to best practises in hygiene and sanitisation across the resort including the following:
- We’ve installed sanitisation stations throughout the resort.
- We’ve incorporated new procedures to effectively sanitise high use areas including chairlifts, gondola cabins and rental equipment.
- We’re further promoting best practice hygiene etiquette amongst staff and guests.
- We’re following stringent practises in cleaning all resort facilities.
- We’re asking guests and employees to stay home if they’re unwell.
We are still confirming all the finer details of operating our modified snow season but the following activities won’t be on offer when we initially open. We will continue to monitor the situation and advise guests if this changes.
- Group lessons
- Thredbo Leisure Centre
- Thredboland and childcare services
- Thredbo Seasonal Programs and race training: we will be contacting all seasonal program registrants in the coming week
- Terrain parks
- NASTAR course
- Guided Mountain Tours
- Night skiing and Thursday night flare runs
- School holidays activities
- Events that bring together large groups of people
