GB Park+Pipe Squads Announced For 2019/20
Nearly 40 athletes have been named in the 2019/20 GB Park+Pipe squads ahead of the upcoming season.
The strength of the ‘A’ squad is evidenced by the fact that last season its athletes took out titles World and Junior World Championships as well as finishing on the podium at X-Games, World Cups and the European Youth Olympic Festival. The ‘B’ squads are also strong with a number of athletes already featuring at World Cups and earning top three finishes at Europa Cup level.
The ski squad is spearheaded by slopestyle world champion James ‘Woodsy’ Woods and Izzy Atkin who has finished on the Olympic, World Championships, World Cup and X-Games podiums. Madi Rowlands made a late-season return from injury in March where affirmed her class with a World Cup top 10, while two-time Olympian Katie Summerhayes is targetting return after a long injury layoff. Young gunsZoe Atkin, Connie Brogden and Kirsty Muir continue to develop into world class athletes and their ongoing development this season will be exciting to watch.
Chris McCormick had a breakthrough year in 2018/19, while Tyler Harding has been working hard to make his return following post-Olympics from injury.
The snowboard squad is led by four athletes selected for PyeongChang and comprises an exciting mix of youth and experience. After more than a year on the sidelines, Katie Ormerod scored a pair of Europa Cup podiums and already has an Australia New Zealand Cup victory to her credit this month. Exciting 12-year-old Mia Brookes is the other female in the ‘A’ squad.
PyeongChang bronze medallist Billy Morgan and fellow Olympians Jamie Nicholls and Rowan Coultas lead the men’s charge along withMatt McCormick who scored his first World Cup top 10 last season. EYOF bronze medallist Gabe Adams has also been selected along with Fin Bremner, Billy Cockrell and Ciaran Tucker.
The 2019/20 World Cup season begins this weekend in New Zealand with snowboard big air, followed by ski halfpipe in early September.
