GB Alpine Champs Return To Tignes For The Next Three Years
The GB Alpine Championships’ will call Tignes home for a further three years with the French resort signing up to host the event through to 2022.
Next year’s Senior Championships will run from Sunday 29 March to Sunday 5 April, followed by the Children’s Championships from Monday 6 to Friday 10 April
More than 500 competitors will take to the slopes including those competing in the GB Para Alpine Championships on the second weekend.
With the trophies from the Championships adorned with the names of almost every British Olympic alpine skier, the event is the most significant on the GB snowsports calendar.
“There’s no other event in British skiing or snowboarding where such a high percentage of our best athletes battle it out head-to-head which makes the GB Alpine Championships a very special couple of weeks,” said Paul Tayner, GB Alpine Director.
“It’s rare in any sport for the nation’s best up-and-coming talent to get the opportunity to compete against their idols, and on many occasions our Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The GB Alpine Championships provides that opportunity and, as we did this year, we often have Olympic and World Championship medallists from other nations entering the event which only serves to increase the stature of the competition.”
While the GB Alpine Championships have been contested at a number of different resorts and countries over the decades the event has been in existent, it has found a happy home in Tignes in recent years.
“Tignes continues to invest in its infrastructure and racing facilities every year and we work closely with them to keep improving the event each time we return,” said Trayner. “It’s fantastic to work with such passionate hosts and we’re looking forward to delivering our best event ever next year and keep improving over the term of the new agreement through to 2022.”
