Garaventa AG Cable Car Day 2024 Held At Zermatt Bergbahnen AG
One of the main focuses of the Garaventa AG Cable Car Day 2024 was the new Zermatt - Furi cable car.
AURO is being used for the first time on a large cable car. AURO stands for "Autonomous Ropeway Operation" and enables the autonomous operation of cable cars. The cable car is equipped with cameras and sensors that continuously record and transmit safety-relevant data. Thanks to this technology, the cable car can be operated using a predefined timetable without supervising operating personnel.
Special design measures on the support saddles of the first support reduce noise. In addition, the Performa traction cable from Fatzer AG was used for the first time in a cable car, which runs over the cable pulleys with virtually no vibration and little noise thanks to its almost cylindrical surface structure. Peak Line components were used for the first time in the valley station, such as compact station saddles that do not require traction cable pulleys.
The Kumme gondola lift was also inspected. The detachable 10-person gondola lift is the first "AURO cable car". The system operates autonomously using intelligent and networked technology. What is unusual about it is that it is operated by just one person. The valley and mountain stations are unmanned. The middle station is where the so-called Ropeway Operation Center (ROC) is located. A cable car employee always has the entire system in view - via cameras in all stations. Emergency stop buttons and intercoms for passengers are installed at the platform barriers. Entry into the cabins is barrier-free.
