FIS News In Brief - March 2018 Week 3
Behind the Scenes: 25 years of World Cup Kvitfjell
Kvitfjell which meams white mountain in Norwegian was developed for the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer and has since evolved into one of the world’s most modern resorts, serving as a perfect example for Olympic legacy.
Welcoming the world’s best male speed skiers each year, the venue celebrated its 25th anniversary as Audi FIS Ski World Cup host last weekend.
Eurovision showcases new remote graphics
Eurovision Media Services (EMS), the business arm of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), showcased its new remote graphics service during the 2018 FIS Ski World Cup taking place in Crans-Montana (SUI) from 3rd-4th March.
With more events and content available, it's important for sports federations and event organisers to make their content more relevant for audiences around the world. At the same time, event sponsors are continuously looking for better ways to target their messaging.
Until now, the most common way to achieve some level of personalization for sports events was to produce several signal versions at the origin and transport them separately to rights holders – a costly and complex operation. Without this, sports federations and event organisers were limited to one signal message when targeting multiple audiences.
"Our latest Eurovision Remote Graphics Service allows clients to efficiently adapt their graphical overlays for different locations by transmitting one single feed across multiple geographical zones and inserting personalised graphics at the destination", said Louis Matignon, Multiplatform Solutions Manager, EMS.
"As the live signal from the event arrives to rightsholders, our system inserts the correct graphics. The central production crew fully controls which chart, language, unit or sponsor logo they display while ensuring full alignment with the predefined graphical chart", he continued.
Kasai aims for ninth Olympic appearance
Noriaki Kasai set a record in PyeongChang by participating in his eighth Olympic Winter Games, but that's not enough for the Japanese, who has already set high goals for himself for Beijing 2022.
"I'm not just going to try, I will definitely be there. I watched the others win medals and it fired me up. I can still keep going. I am by no means finished,” said the 45-year-old.
Noriaki Kasai finished 21st and 33rd in the two individual competitions in PyeongChang and came in sixth with the Japanese team on Monday. The veteran was not satisfied with these results.
In 1992, Noriaki Kasai took part in his first Olympics. He won his first medal in 1994 in Lillehammer with second place in the team competition. 20 years later in Sochi, the Japanese claimed silver in the individual event on the large hill and won the bronze medal with the team.
