FIS Mourns Fredy Brupbacher And Hermann Wehrle

FIS was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former alpine racer and FIS Official Fredy Brupbacher. Brupbacher was a member of the Swiss national team in alpine skiing from 1956-63 and competed in the Olympic giant slalom in Squaw Valley (USA) in 1960 as well as at the FIS World Ski Championships in Bad Gastein (AUT) in giant slalom and downhill.

After his sporting career, Brupbacher built and managed his own marketing agency. During this time, he was closely involved with the FIS Alpine World Cup in various roles for some 25 years, including as FIS World Cup Support on the ladies’s tour until 2007. Starting in 1996, he worked with Race Director Kurt Hoch for 15 years and with Atle Skaardal for the last two years and attended his 500th FIS World Cup event in Zwiesel, Germany, in 2007. After his retirement, he kept active, working at various skiing events closer to his home town of Zürich.

FIS would like to express its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Fredy Brupbacher.

It is with great sadness that FIS is reporting on the death of Hermann Wehrle, long-time Head of the Organising Committee for the Ski Jumping events in Hinterzarten (GER). Wehrle, who joined the the ski club Hinterzarten in 1965, held the offices of treasurer and was responsible for the Nordic disciplines for 22 years. He was a sports official, Chief of Competition and Head of the Organising Committee for the Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix for many years, as well as the deputy Secretary General for the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2010.

The ski sports family said goodbye to Wehrle in a church service in Hinterzarten, quite befittingly on the same day that the German national championships in Ski Jumping took place at the “Adler Skistadion”. FIS Race Director Walter Hofer was on site to represent FIS and was joined by German Ski Federation President Dr Franz Steinle. FIS would like to express its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hermann Wehrle.
