FIS Coordination Group Visit To Courchevel - Meribel 2023

A key milestone was reached the last two days for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2023 in Courchevel-Meribel (FRA), when the Local Organising Committee hosted its first Coordination Group meeting in the two Alpine resorts.

The Coordination Group meetings are a key element of the FIS Knowledge Transfer Programme, which bring all of the key stakeholders together at the site of future World Championships twice a year to go over every aspect of hosting the event.

For the first coordination group meeting, the Organisers placed special emphasis on seven different areas including the General Organisation, Sport, Marketing, Governance, Finance, Communication and Infrastructure/Construction.

The first day of working meetings were held at the Ski Jumping hill in Courchevel as the Organisers had their first chance to outline the strategy and vision for their edition of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Leading the meeting was current Courchevel-Meribel 2023 President Michel Vion with the recently appointed Director General Perrine Pelen and Deputy, Jean-Philippe Demael. Also present at the meeting was a full delegation from the two resorts in addition to members from FIS, led by Secretary General Sarah Lewis and the French Ski Association. Representatives from the rights holder Infront Sports rounded out the attendees at the first Coordination Group meeting

The second day of meetings moved outdoors as the delegates undertook a walk-through of the two competition venues in Meribel and Courchevel. The ladies’ competitions, parallel individual and team events and medal ceremonies will be staged in Meribel, while the men’s events and opening ceremony will be held in Courchevel.

The range of facilities in both venues will provide very convenient set-ups for the athletes and team support, the media, sponsors and guests, as well as great on-site viewing for the visitors.”

The next milestone for Courchevel-Meribel will come quickly as they will send a delegation to next week’s Calendar Conference in Dubrovnik (CRO) to report on their activities to the Alpine Committee.
