First Ever Jet Service Set To Fly From Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport To Telluride This Winter
Skiers and snowboarders in the Valley will welcome the return of a favorite Colorado ski flight, with service from Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) to Telluride (TEX) set to resume this winter. With the Telluride Regional Airport located just 10 minutes from town and the slopes, and flights set to be operated on a jet for the first time, it will be easier than ever for Arizonans to reach their closest major mountain resort.
Denver Air Connection will launch daily flights on December 16 from Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) to the Telluride Regional Airport (TEX), operated on a Dornier 328JET, and running through April 5, 2022. Denver Air is known for its phenomenal customer service, and the Dornier 328JET offers a comfortable 30-seat configuration with full in-flight services. Flight time from PHX-TEX will be just 70 minutes in the air.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (IATA: PHX, ICAO: KPHX, FAA LID: PHX) is a civil-military public airport 3 miles (2.6 nmi; 4.8 km) east of downtown Phoenix, in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. It is Arizona's largest and busiest airport, and among the largest commercial airports in the United States; in 2020, PHX was the 8th-busiest airport in the United States and 24th-busiest in the world. The airport serves as a hub for American Airlines and a base for Southwest Airlines.
“The flights from PHX to TEX hands-down offer Phoenicians the quickest and easiest way to get to major North American skiing,” said Colorado Flights CEO Matt Skinner. “We have listened to consistent requests from both Valley and Telluride residents over the last several years to put these flights back into TEX, and are thrilled to have found an answer with the first-ever jet service.”
“Telluride is a unique destination frequented by many Arizonans,” said Phoenix Director of Aviation Services, Chad Makovsky. “We welcome Denver Air Connection to Sky Harbor, and we are grateful for the opportunity to provide our residents with convenient service to Telluride while allowing Colorado residents great access to the Phoenix area.”
“Denver Air Connection is proud to operate the world’s only scheduled jet service in and out of the Telluride Regional Airport, and we are grateful for the trust and support our partner, Colorado Flights, puts in us,” said Cliff Honeycutt, President of Denver Air Connection. “When we began service from Denver to Telluride, there was already a shared vision to expand service and options for travelers to Telluride. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has been most welcoming, and we look forward to beginning daily round trips in December.”
Nestled within Southwest Colorado’s dramatic San Juan Mountains, Telluride, Colorado, is known for its world-class alpine skiing, awe-inspiring landscapes and vibrant summer festival season. Telluride has been ranked the #1 Ski Resort in North America by Conde Nast five of the last six years. Telluride is served by two regional airports: Telluride (TEX), just 10 minutes from town and the slopes, and Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ), a scenic 75-minute shuttle ride to the destination.
America West/US Airways successfully flew turbo-prop aircraft from PHX-TEX from 1993-2011, when those aircraft were relocated or retired. Flights then shifted to the Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) from PHX with American Airlines, which also continue to operate.
