Great interest from national associations
Almost three months before the start of the title fights, the world championships are met with a great response internationally. 63 national associations have already registered. In addition to Italy, who are arriving with 61 people, Argentina (56), Spain (55), France (51) and the USA (50) also have strong squads. "I am delighted that we will indeed have the whole world as our guest, teams from New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong have also announced their participation, as have South Africa, Kenya, Uganda and Argentina, Chile, Mexico - from the European countries too be silent, almost everyone is there from Iceland to Ukraine to Malta," says Pittl, head of organization.
Volkswagen R is a Premium Partner of the WMTRC
The World Cup is also attracting great interest from well-known companies and institutions. Tirol Werbung, Innsbruck Tourismus and the Stubai Tirol Tourist Association have been partners from the very beginning. “The fact that we were able to win Volkswagen R as a premium partner for the world championships confirms that we have captured the spirit of the times with the mountain and trail running world championships. There are also partnerships with La Sportiva , Snowline Chainsen and Salomon , to name just a few well-known sponsors and business partners. Further contracts with well-known brands are about to be signed,” says Pittl.
Live stream in five languages
Due to the international scope and the uniqueness of this major sporting event, all medal decisions can be followed via live stream and on national and international TV channels. In addition to the official WMTRC 2023 website, the stream will also be available on numerous other websites - in five languages: German, English, Spanish, Italian and French. In addition, around 150 journalists are expected to attend the World Championships.
OC boss: "Volunteers are the backbone of big events."
In June, around 400 volunteers will have the opportunity to take a unique look behind the scenes of a major international event. OC boss Pittl gets to the point: “Volunteers are the backbone of large events – without them, many of them could not be implemented. So a heartfelt thank you to the more than 250 volunteers who have already registered and will help to make the WMTRC 2023 a festival of sport in the heart of the Alps.” Register quickly at innsbruck-stubai2023.com/jobvolunteering . Cheering Crew and Cheering Bus
It's the mood and the images that make a sporting event unique. For this reason, the organizing committee came up with the idea of "Cheering Crews". "The athletes perform incredibly well, be it over 7 or 85 kilometers or in between - they deserve to be cheered on and motivated," emphasizes Pittl. The World Cup routes at a glance
The title fights take place on the four routes - VERTICAL, TRAIL SHORT, TRAIL LONG and MOUNTAIN CLASSIC, which lead past some of the most beautiful places in the Alps.
- VERTICAL (7.3 km and 1,020 hm): The new world champion and the world champion in the vertical will be crowned in two separate runs on a demanding course. After starting at the leisure center in Neustift im Stubai, after two rounds of the village, the route leads more or less directly uphill to the Elferhütte on narrow and steep forest trails.
- TRAIL SHORT (44.6 km and 3,132 hm): The Trail Short leads over a varied and challenging course from the common mass start at the Landestheater in Innsbruck over the steep and demanding trails of the Nordkette across the Inn Valley into alpine terrain. The runners reach the Kalkkögel region via the Mutterer Alm, before they reach the finish line in Neustift via a steep downhill path.
- TRAIL LONG (85.6 km and 5,554 hm): After a mass start in Neustift, the Trail Long leads into the high alpine mountains of the Kalkkögel. The route crosses the Inn Valley past the Adolf-Pichler-Hütte, the Hoadl and the Salfeiner See, before it leads over the last 1000 hm climb to the Nordkette and ends after the last, technically demanding descent at the Landestheater in Innsbruck.
- MOUNTAIN CLASSIC (6.7 km and 374 hm): The Mountain Classic was planned in the same urban area of Innsbruck based on the “Hell” known from the cycling world championships. In separate runs, the juniors (male/female) start with one lap before the elite runners (male/female) fight for the final world championship titles over two laps.
