Expansion Of Solar Energy At Brunni
Brunni-Bahnen Engelberg AG is relying on even more solar power. New solar systems have been put into operation on the roof of the valley and mountain stations of the Engelberg-Ristis cable car. The four systems owned by Brunni-Bahnen AG now produce 25% of the company's electricity needs.
The new solar systems on the roofs of the valley and mountain stations of the Engelberg-Ristis cable car have been in operation for a few weeks now. This means that Brunni-Bahnen AG can increase solar power production by 10 percent to a total of 210,000 kilowatt hours, which corresponds to 25 percent of the total electricity requirements of the three restaurants and all of the cable cars.
Sustainable electricity production as part of the corporate strategy
"Sustainable energy management is anchored in our strategy," explains Roman Barmettler, Managing Director of Brunni-Bahnen AG. The exposed location of the Brunni area with permanent sunlight is ideal for electricity production. The old mountain station has been equipped with a solar system for eight years, and solar power has also been produced on the roof of the Ristis mountain restaurant since 2019.
"We wanted to further increase the efficiency and the proportion of electricity generated through renewable energies," says Roman Barmettler, which is why a feasibility study was carried out to check all buildings for possible new or additional systems. "We came to the conclusion that there is great potential for electricity production at the mountain and valley stations," explains the managing director.
Further expansion in the future
Aesthetics were an important criterion when building the new systems. The new panels fit perfectly into the roof structures and are barely noticeable visually. Roman Barmettler is pleased about the sustainable development: "The four systems now make a significant contribution to further reducing the ecological footprint of our company." And so Brunni-Bahnen AG intends to continue investing in solar systems in the coming years and to use the predestined
